why would anyone actually buy this book? its been common knowledge for 25 years (especially the last 10 years), athletes use performance enhancing drugs. olympians, football, boxing, baseball, every sport. ever since i was a kid, when ben johnson got the gold medal taken from him, it seemed obvious, he couldnt be the only one doing it. baseball players have been popping amphetimins for a century - usually to wake up from drinking all night. i cant imagine there is anything that is enlightening, let alone 'shocking' in this book. maybe ill write a book, called "water wet!" - probably be a best seller.

Asshole or not, I just couldn't sell my brother out like that on a worldwide stage, no less. To each his own, I guess.

As someone who was in the pro baseball scene, and who's bro-in-law was in the spotlight for homerun hitting a few years ago himself (and is currently in florida getting ready for spring training), I know exactly what went on in the jucing biz with baseball and I have lots of friends that still juice to try and get that call up to the big show. My bro-in-law is one of the few who I can say absolutely does not use anything at all, whether it is steroids, GH or ephedra/energy/focus stuff. I did though and I don't give a shit. I'd do it again.

I'll tell you what, for a $400K+ annual payday (for a guy who sits the bench most of the time), it's worth the risk of getting caught. Well worth the risk. Make a 3 year contract for 3-5 million bucks every 3 years as an everyday player or in the rotation and you are set for life.

What's funny, and uncomfortable, is when they test you, the guy will literally watch you piss into the cup. Yep, he is looking at your schlong as you piss for him. They don't play around with this anymore.

Anyway, with McGwire's situation, yes, fuck his brother for coming out with this. It's bullshit.

Mark (whom I have met several times) is still not saying much, lying about knowing/remembering what he used etc because 1) he doesn't want to talk about it because he's embarrase 2) he doesn't need to 3) nobody really cares 4) it doesn't really matter anymore.

Is he truly sorry for using steroids? IMO, probably not. But, I'm not him so that's just an opinion based upon what I have experienced in the whole scene.

All the guys who have apologized are sorry for getting caught, and that's really it.

Like this article says, the tempation is overwhelming in sports when big $$$ and fame are on the line. I didn't really care much for being famous. I just wanted to make some big $$$. Also, because I really enjoyed kicking ass on the bump striking out good hitters and seeing them pissed off, hehehe. I really enjoyed baseball and the competition. Pitching in front of a roaring crowd of 30,000 people is quite the addictive experience. Injuries kill dreams in the blink of an eye.

HOmeboy is right on the money with this lol. My younger brother is one of "those" waiting to get called up. THe minority are clean, the majority are not.
