I honestly don't know. But what a great question to research. Thank you!

Haney retired following the 1991 Mr. Olympia and I've heard some say that he had seen the writing on the wall.

"Orlando, Florida, was the site of the 1991 Mr. Olympia. Haney was going for eight in a row, but for the first time he was up against a man who was the same height (5′11") and weight (245 pounds) in Dorian Yates, the Beast from Britain . Four points separated them after two rounds, but Haney pulled away in rounds three and four to seize his eighth championship in a row."

    From http://www.ifbbpro.com/history-of-the-mr-olympia/3/

Haney's physique was amazing regardless of Yates' impressive challenge. And I'd say that the fact that Haney had the opportunity to eclipse Arnold's record number of wins was not overlooked.

Had the judges at that time wanted to maintain Arnold's record of superiority they might have given Yates the nod in '91 thus preventing Haney from topping the "seven Mr. Olympias" record? (Ever the conspiracy theorist? )

My guesswork aside, bodybuilding writer Shawn Perine offered the following comments in the October 2007 issue of Flex in an article about favorites contests over years:

"By 1991, seven-time reigning Mr. O Lee Haney knew that the sport he had dominated for so long was changing. No longer was it a rarity for a bodybuilder to tip the scales at 230 pounds. In fact, earlier in the year, the Night Of Champions was won by a British newcomer named Dorian Yates, who matched Haney favorably size-wise, while second and third place went to fellow giants Sonny Schmidt and Geir Borgan Paulsen. With the smaller but stellar physiques of Vince Taylor, Shawn Ray and Lee Labrada added to the mix, Haney realized he had his hands full. Pulling out all the stops, he succeeded in bringing his all-time best package to the stage for his last hurrah -- 252 pounds of shredded beef, precisely proportioned and beautifully presented. Paired with his dramatic posing routine to the theme from Excalibur, Haney proved unbeatable for a record eighth time."

    From http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_n27393075/

Perine's opinion is not unanimous, however:

By beating smaller men who displayed better conditioning and, it could be said, superior shape and aesthetics (namely Labrada and Ray) Haney had proven that gargantuan size was an important acquisition for any Mr. Olympia hopeful. This was more than underscored in 1991 when he narrowly won his eighth straight title (a new record) against a man who weighed 245 pounds and stood 5'11", like the champ himself: second place finisher, Dorian Yates.

Known as The Shadow based of his ability to appear at a moment's notice to dominate the opposition, Yates indeed cast serious doubt over his opposition in '91 with conditioning never before witnessed on a man so large. With superior leg development compared with Haney and greater potential for further progress (he had only been in the pro ranks for two years) Dorian signaled to all that he was here to stay.

It is not surprising that Haney chose the '91 show to be his last. Though probably at his very best - "I have finally learned how to peak," he said immediately after the show - Haney must have known that a new era was emerging, one that would even surpass the legacy of mass combined with balanced muscle development that he himself had ushered in.

YouTube normally notes when they strip the music out of a video, so maybe the absence of a soundtrack was simply an unfortunate glitch. And you're right, great to watch those routines.

peter mcgough over at musclemag wrote that he had dorian winning without question...but then again, he was a part of team dorian...would have been interesting to see them go head to head for a few more years, being young by heavyweight standards...

The "buzz" going into the 91 O was over Haney leaving Weider for Twinlabs and if Weider was going to "let" Haney win! Shawn Ray had a video series on American Muscle stating how he was prepared to end Haney's reign. After Shawn got 5th you can see him say something to Shawn on stage! LOL Yates was good, but he wasn't ready to beat Haney. Taylor stole the show IMO with his Terminator routine! That routine CHANGED posing forever

Neither Haney or Yates were particularly photogenic in a bodybuilding way in my view. Haneys skin tone was quite dark and did not photo well to my eyes.

I think Janey was massive with a better upper body than Yates in 1991. Haney had better aesthetics than Dorian also.

I am on my phone and have not compared their backs in 91's O. That would be interesting.

Ronnie also left Weider leaving doubt as to whether it would affect his placing.
