Microdermabrasion - what's your experience with it?

Living here in the desert can do a number on ones skin and, since living here in Vegas I've noticed that my skin looks dull and no longer has its healthy glow. Facials are great for cleaning the pores, and a light acid exfoliation hurts like a mofo and *imo* the results hardly seem worth it. --- I'm just looking for something new to try.

If you've had microdermabrasion done....

What's your experience with it?
Does it hurt?
Are the results worthwhile?

I have had it done about 4 times. The first time being when I was in Dallas, Texas and that would have to be the best one. No it doesn't hurt. Its actually relaxing. My skin looked absolutely amazing afterwards.
When I had it done in Aussie I didn't feel they did as good job. So that's why I stopped getting them done but bascially I use alot of AHA's and BHA's and retin A and Vitamin C products on my skin anyway, so I have little in the way of dead skin cells.

I had four sessions of microdermabrasion and, to be honest, I didn't notice a significant enough difference in my skin to make it worth it for me. I wouldn't go back for more. It doesn't hurt though, so you shouldn't worry about that.

I've given and received microderms in class (I'm studying esthetics). It doesn't hurt, but if performed properly, your skin should be a nice pink color afterwards. I don't have sensitive skin, so that color went away pretty quickly and I was able to put makeup on afterwards and go out as normal.

Since I don't have any problems (yet) and take good care of my skin, I didn't notice any results from my sessions. Then again, the only reason I had it done was so that I knew what it felt like so that I could perform the service on others.

Do you have an esthetician that you trust? My instructor does these regularly and will often give a newbie a sample of what the microderm feels like by doing it on the back of their hand first. If they like it and would like to try a session, she will then make an appointment for them to receive one.

Microderm does help increase cell turnover, therefore promoting a healthy glow... so it's definitely one avenue to consider.

Maybe you should also look into an enzyme peel... it's a bit of a less aggressive alternative to acid peels... and the enzyme eats away at dead surface cells, which should leave you with the results you're looking for.
