Call your local Dept of Agriculture. Sick them on the gym. Works from experience.

Years ago I quit Crunch and kept getting billed for months. They told me it was because I hadn't filled out the right form to quit when I had. The pretty lady at the desk must have just filed it wrong or some such bullshit. Every time I'd go in to correct the situation they told me that there'd be another month charge because I was just now giving 30 days notice. This happened about 3 times. One day I went into the gym shouting and carrying on like an asshole and that just made the whole thing worse. Finally I sat down and wrote a polite letter to the president of the company (at the advice of a co-worker). Charges stopped immediately.
My advice - go straight to the head dude.

It's simple.
IF you've satisfied the requirements for a relocation cancellation (which is usually DISTANCE, not time of travel), call you bank and stop the monthly debit.
I don't know what state the membership is in, but MOST states, a gym membership cannot be reported to the three major credit bureaus. If you get a call from collections, tell them to go pound sand. I did collections for gyms while I was in college in NC, so I can't speak for every state.
At any rate, you need to CLOSELY read the contract that you signed and find the precise wording in the relocation clause.
All of that being said, I hope that you read the full contract before you signed it. Because if you didn't, I can't find a lot of sympathy.
Read what you sign people, the company to whom you're giving your cash has NO stake in your personal or financial well-being, they just want your money. We're all big boys and girls, so we have to look out for ourselves.

The BBB cannot make them cancel the membership or refund money. All they can do is send a letter and register the complaint in their database.
If this is SOP for this gym/Costco operation, then I wouldn't look for a BBB letter do do any good...they've probably got a collection of them already.

Contact corporate. Oftentimes this is simply the gym sales force suring up thier bottom line. Believe me corporate wants to know if they are doing this.

All these places are assholes about this. At my gym www.bodyworx247.com I am really to easy on people. Most times if they want to cancel I will bill them only 1 or maybe 2 months at most and let them out of there contracts. I understand times are hard and ya know what. When they get funds again...they come back! What a novel idea huh! Treat people well and they will continue to come to you!
