Ok...I don't necessarily agree with layton's rhetoric above...lol....but I have to thank Romano for bringing this "cracker tax" to light and some pretty good arguments to go along with it. Seriously...taxing tanning salons??? And I certainly don't believe that the proceeds will be directed toward skin cancer treatment. Wow...it's time I step up and start getting involved.

One tax. It's not a race war. I would understand if this was the only tax being implemented but it just adds to the sum of money used to help finance this health insurance plan. It's so much more complex than just taxing tanning and to compare it realistically to bean pipes and watermelon is racist and idiotic. Especially considering the latter is part of a larger healthier group labeled "fruit". To then turn the article into an argument on the oppression of white Catholic men is even further bullshit and off topic. I get the whole conspiracy theorist arguments with religion and government. But twisting a bit on tanning salons into new age white oppression is overly irrational. While the majority, white people are not the only people using tanning salons. Hispanics, asians, arabs even some lighter skinned black people I know use the tanning salons. I'm all for freedom of choice and taxation with representation, having the right to do to yourself as you see fit etc... But this is the stupidest article written by John Romano on RX I've read to date.

You totally missed the point. Clearly this tax is racist against whites. Just imagine if such a tax was levied against a good or service that was used by predominantly non-whites - (I don't care who you "know," Hispanics, and Arabs are not predominant tanning salon patrons). The activists would be up in arms across the country. If you doubt that you've been drinking too much of the kool-aid.

The fact is that the sense of entitlement minorities have in this country is sickening. The hand outs and programs directed at people who are still bent on the oppression their ancestors suffered is patently disgusting and it is aimed at us unjustly. Taxing tanning beds under the guise that the money is going to be used to treat skin cancer caused by the tanning beds is a slap in the face to anyone with even marginal intelligence. If you paid any attention to what was really happening in this country you'd get it.

A great example of this entitlement sense came across the news right after the "cash for clunker" disaster. A reported was talking to an African American woman about her new car and asked how she liked driving it. The woman replied that she hadn't driven it yet. When the reporter asked why, the woman replied "because I'm waiting for Obama to put gas in it."
