I think that the assumption (and I HATE assumptions!) that we can draw from the lecture is that every biological entity is hard-wired with a level of insulin sensitivity/resistance. Further, lifestyle and activity level may further affect the role and impact that insulin plays in a persons body.
It seemed to me that the point he was making was that in order to maintain (or achieve) a favorable balance of bodyfat composition, one must manipulate their own personal carbohydrate intake to whatever level necessary, relative to ethnicity (Inuit vs. Trinidadian, resistance training vs. endurance exercise).
That's just the overview of how I took his talk. I could be way off.

Wonderful videos full of fascinating info...reminds me of the book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes. That book totally changed my way at looking at food, obesity and insulin resistance. I highly recommend it if you are interested in the information given by Dr. Scott.

I wish there was an entire archive of videos and interviews out there about Dr. SC. I wish he would author a new book regarding protein metabolism and insulin modulation.

Has anybody seen Gary Taubes on Larry King? Talking about his book and stuff like insulin & carbs...

Maybe somebody can help me understand what point he's actually trying to make (I haven't read his book yet). He's saying that working out doesn't really burn calories and that it doesn't really matter if you consume simple or complex carbs?!?! So what.... people who are obese are doomed for life? It's all about insulin?
Would be cool if somebody could help me out here. Thanks!

Hyperglycemia and insulin resistance are the big culprits in obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Really? He's a pretty smart dude. I read his book. He's a science writer so when he says "burn" calories, he's probably speaking in literal terms. The book is a great read, although sometimes it gets technical, and a fantastically well documented history of how we got to where we are as far as what is considered healthy. VERY eye opening.
