Renee O'Neill passes away

I have recorded a tv show about 10 years ago that also featured Colette Nelson training at Crush gym I think. I need to look for it but basically it featured Rennee, Colette and Millie Carter.

O'Neill was also a noteworthy powerlifter who totaled 1,150 pounds in the 165-pound class lifting 450 in the squat, 250 in the bench, and 450 in the deadlift. She was also a skilled ice hockey player, and also had a love of horseback riding.

Outside of bodybuilding, O'Neill carried on an impressive career working for The Boeing Company working as an associate technical fellow in 2003 and as an executive in 2008. Her last position was as director, Sensors Systems Integrated Product Team for the Ground Based Midcourse Defense Missile program. On one of the biographical sheets she filled out at one of her many competitions - under occupation - she simply wrote "software engineer working on the space station project".

I knew Renee' back in the competing days....She was the only fbb you could call a space cadet and not be insulting....RIP

Yes, Renee was a very intelligent woman with a strong competitive spirit. We (WPW) did a nice four-page profile on Renee in the May/June 1996 issue after her victory at the NPC Southern States in '95.

Much respect and condolences on the loss of such an accomplished person. This hits close to home, as, interestingly, aside from a 3 year difference in graduating years, my life in technology parallels hers very closely. Having worked w/ part of the space station software technology back in the late 80s, I have much respect for her experience.

Sassy, it is women like Renee and yourself that continue to point out the need for more recognition of the accomplishments so many competitors have achieved in their lives outside women's bodybuilding....and all the while finding the time to devote to their physical being. So many women.....and all so special.

I am shocked... I knew Renee very well...

Back in the early 90's we used to all run in the same competitive circle. I also won the Overall at the Tennessee Valley a few years later on my 3rd attempt.. It was the show to win back then..

We used to all hit the clubs in Huntsville(Club V) & Birmingham together.. LOL, I never will forget when she got wasted one weekend at my apartment when she & another FBB I dated at the time came down to Bham to visit. She was always very competitive & was strong as an ox in powerlifting. Her quads, butt, & hamstrings were freaky..

I always admired her because she had her shit together with her career being an engineer at NASA, & also a competitive bodybuilder. I lost touch with her & many from that old crew over the years.

It seems like just yesterday...
