The problem is that stuff with an established mythology like our childhood favorites are so deep and detailed, that explaining it all for the new audience today would take longer than they have the attention span for. So in come the new writers who try to piece together the long storied past into 5-10 minutes of back story explanation so that the movie can either get going, or start going again. And unfortunately in the process, some details get rewritten, replaced, or removed entirely. And then that upsets us, and here we are now to talk about it.
I can understand why it happens. I mean, really... the whole Phoenix thing with Jean Grey and the X-Men can take up three movies by itself. The relationship between Spider-Man and Venom is two movies, at least. Thundercats, for instance... if done correctly and true to the cartoon and comic books would easily need to be one movie BEFORE they start dealing with Mumm-Ra.
It is just a shame that it has come to that... sparing quality for quantity (a much more quickly produced and distributed movie or franchise).

Maybe they should just shift from the big screen to the little screen and make a tv series out of it. Or maybe even a limited run of 3-4 seasons with a predetermined ending. Complete with attention to detail about everything and continuity, origins, etc. with a big budget. Would getting top tv ratings be as difficult as getting high box office returns?

I do not know anything about that. But there probably is more leeway for content in a big screen movie, and I would guess a better return of investment. Television is one of those areas where you have to prove yourself. Word of mouth and an over-the-top marketing campaign saturation work much faster for movies. I cannot think of anything on television that immediately took off without having to go through one complete season first.
Theatrical releases also draw on star power for their vehicles. Big A-listers are not going to want to step down to television. Well, not all of them anyway. Samuel Jackson would do it

Thanks Leigh, I'm hoping to get back to that look this summer just a little leaner.
I hear ya! Not to sound like a broken record or some gay fan but that Zimmerman kid is a dead ringer for the lead role as Lion-O
A movie studio needs to sign him to a multi million dollar motion picture contract.

Triple H, that BeastMan is friggin SICK! Love the darker style. Considering the original HeMan as targeted at children I'm sure the new movie will be as well.
The only thing we can hope for is the adult appeal that just about all Pixar movies have to entertain all the adults taking their kids to see the movies.
