PEAK Fitness on State Street is the best gym in Rockford and the best gym I've ever trained in. DON'T go to the new Peak out on Perryville. It is a family-oriented facility. The Peak on state is hardcore, yet clean and has tons of Hammer Strength and Nebula equipment. It may look plush at first glance, but people train hard as hell there, and there are a bunch of local-level bodybuilders. Rockford is my hometown, so I'll be there all summer. Let me know if you need any advice on places to eat, grocery shop, hang out, shit like that!

Is DePaepe's gym still in Moline, IL? That was a great hardcore gym from what I last remembered.

There used to be a gym called Inferno...but they closed up, moved and re-named the gym. I'll try to find out what its called. Inferno was hardcore.
Sidenote..I'm from Rockford...and I'm sorry you're moving there. Hopefully its not by choice.

Ok, gym I was referring to is now called The Asylum Gym. Its on Harlem Rd. in Loves Park. Its owned by the people who used to own The Inferno. Inferno was the first gym membership I ever had and was truly hardcore. I've never been to Asylum but my mom's company has a business relationship with them and she's visited there a few times for marketing stuff. She said its small, lots of weights and is in a concrete building. She said it reminded her of a gym Arnold might lift in...lol. So there ya go. This might be a good spot to check out.
If you arent sure of Loves Park...its kinda like the subburbs. You can be in Rockford and cross the street and be in Loves Park and not even know you left Rockford. I think next time I'm home for a day I may go check it out. Keep us updated on what you do.

Not in Rockford, but in algonquin there is a lifetime fitness that has a lot of strongmen and bodybuilders that work out there.
Keep Ritch Banned. FOR-EVER.
Un-Ban SKELETOR though, yo.

lol...yeah, just an hour down 90. I think the new Peak on Perryville would be comparable to Lifetime if thats the atmosphere you're looking for. The Peak on State will probably be your best bet, Nick.

I was pretty surprised to be scrolling the threads and saw one about rockford illinois, lol. I live here and have belonged to all the local gyms. I currently have a home gym but i will give u the rundown on everything around here! depending on where you live in rockford, as stated earlier the Peak Fitness on east state is very good. 24 hours a day and is $39 a month. the lower level is for the serious weightlifter. plenty of machines and dumbbells that go up to 150's. The asylum gym is the old inferno. same equipment but smaller building. it is $20 a month but has bad hours. gary and sandy are the owners and are really nice. another option is the fitness zone is rockton (20 minutes north of rockford). it is a 24 hour gym that uses a key card access. has some good equipment and dumbbells up to 130's. kevin and brenda the owners are really nice and kevin was a competitive bodybuilder. there is also the local ymca's and a ballys on east state. any ?'s just ask. good luck

Lifetime is a great company with great people, I am a trainer for them. That being said, for a bodybuilder, I wouldn't train there unless it was the best available. No chalk, lots of women and kids, old people, not really hardcore, and I don't like a lot of their equipment. Most is selectorized, not much plate loaded stuff.

If you ever venture to Montgomery, IL check out Jakked Hardcore gym.. its the real deal. Many competitive bodybuilders and powerlifters train there.. The equipment is excellent..and Byron, one of the owners is a really good guy too.
