Is mac nut oil better than olive oil (and why)?
I've been reading a lot of posts about eating and/or recommending macadamia nut oil. Is it better than olive oil, and if so, why? Thanks!

Search Dave's Q and A thread. Nobody can explain it better than the guru himself.

tastes better that's for sure!
I think it is preferred because some question the quality of olive oil... mac nut is a more expensive product - I think people think less chance it is tainted, etc.
As far as profile I would think almond oil would prob be the best...

Mac oil is the best because of its high smoke point, you can cook with it and you still keep all the healthy fats, where as olive oil and most other oils its burns and you end up wit saturated fats and lose all the monos.

To keep this 100%....I absolutely have to say that Olive Oil tastes better and if it makes my protein taste like Italian food, i could care less about the smoke point!

It has a better ratio of omega 6 oils, low smoke point, tastes better.

This site is awesome! I thought this was a somewheat esoteric question and figured I'd be lucky to get even one response. Instead, I just logged on and in less than 5 hours I got 12 really helpful replies. Thanks!!
I never knew about the smoke point issue, so I'll try switching to mac nut for cooking. I think olive oil tastes better, so if the health benefits are comparable, I'll stick with that for my shakes and salads, unless I can find almond oil, which sounds delish.

In one of these videos he explains it, I believe it is in #2, but I'll post all 3 since they are good watches. Pretty much what has been said on here already, high smoke point so it doesn't break down and maintains the healthy benefits.

Macnut oil has: 1) Higher smoke point, 2) more monounsaturated fats than olive oil, 3) you can cook with it and 4) many prefer the buttery taste over olive oil.
I love both! I grease my pan with macnut oil for cooking, but often add olive oil for eating just to switch it up. Either is acceptable as far as what it will do for your body.
Dave has mentioned to Evan Centopani that he feels macnut oil 'does something to your metabolism', and he stays noticibly leaner when using macnut oil over olive oil FYI

I don't use either for cooking so the smoke point is irrelevant. I like mac nut oil in a shake and extra virgin olive oil as a dressing on vegies or salad. So I use both. I don't think it realy makes that much difference. Use the one you prefer.
I have read somewhere that because of labeling laws in the USA Extra Virgin olive oil only has to have a small percentage of extra virgin oil. So that's an issue too.
I'm lucky. In Australia I can just buy a bottle of Mac Nut oil from the supermarket along side the olive oil.
