What pisses me off about most dumbbelles i have used is that the heavier your go the thicker the handles get........i have small hands so the thinner the handle the better. In terms of durability and if i owned a gym i would prob get the hex ones as they are one solid piece of metal and will never break plus like mention prior the weight is ethched into the dumbelle so it will never wear away.

I have an old York fixed dumbell 60lbs.It's round and looks like the one in Mike's avatar picture.Several years back the Ft. Worth fire dept. was tearing down the old building downtown they were in and found a set of these in an old storage room.A buddy of mine who is a fireman that I was training with at the time asked if he could have them and they didn't care.Anyway he gave me one and I use it for a doorstop. It looks pretty cool like the oldtime strongman type.
