Thread: Which "style-dumbells"-is best?

York Style:
Pro Style:
Hex Style:
I've never used York Style, so I can't comment on these ones.
I don't mind hex, but I HATE the rubber coated hex dumbells. They're so damn clunky and the added coating just makes them too bulky when you're lifting heavier.
The pro style is my preference because they are slim... but even these have a draw-back. Some gyms don't maintain their weights, the screw gets loose/stripped and the plates start spinning (which is really annoying when you're holding the plates as opposed to the grips)
Edit: Are these for your home? Because if cost is an issue, depending on the style the prices will vary (anywhere from $2.50 - $5 per pound)

I always liked pro style handles and the feel(except when plates get loose), but they have fixed at my gym..I hate the rubber coated dummbells at la fitness

Ivanko Pro-style ones FTW. I hate the feel of hex dumbbells, and the Ivanko ones were the first dumbbells I got to use in high school. Love the way they are still fairly "compact" even at 80lbs and up.

I would think the hex or york would be best, especially when you're doing heavy dumbell bench. You have to rest those weights on your thighs, and I would think that ridge may bother some. I'm talking about the super heavy ones. And also, what happens when you drop them? I would think the Pro style would more easily come apart.
I myself own a pair of powerblocks.

Whats the best barbell bar? The SHINY chrome one, or the dull chrome one? Which one gives you better gains?

For space issues, I use PowerBlocks (5-85 lb set) and then have the Hex for the 100, 110, & 120's. The PowerBlocks are a little awkward at first but you do get used to them. The Hex's are more cost effective then some of the other ones but you shouldn't drop them too much because they tend to warp or even break.

I would say none of the above. The ones that can take the most abuse are similar to Pro Style but have welded caps on the end to hold the weight instead of hex nuts that loosen or break.

ivanko rubber coated. thin handled and sharp knurling.
tri-bars are the worst with the triangle handled.
and plate loaded pro style are the worst, when you drop them or roll them, they can loosen wayyyy too easy. Not something you want when you're training with over 50 lbs.

Why do you always have to respond in a know it all condescending way...You do a great job of making yourself look like a moron.

Stop being a retard.
Any dumbbell that let`s you rest it on your thigh without digging in. Also the rubber ones are good for when you drop them. I`m going with rubber hex (I happen to use them as well).

pro style leave them a lil loose and the motion and rotation you get from them are a more natrual feel than a solid stiff one like hex DB
