    Default Lipolyze/Somalyze being pulled? ? ?

Now Bodybuilding.com is no longer offering Somalyze and Lipolyze ,claiming that the FDA is watching them closely and may pull these products off the shelves of all suppliers? Can anyone explain why, and if there is any truth to this? I'd hate to lose these products too, they both work great!

I suspect it's a financial decision. The income generated from selling these products is less than the feared loss from some kind of litigation if they continue to offer the products.

The only truth that I've read has been that someone has accused (not proven that) the supplement is possibly responsible for their liver failing.

There has been no statement by the "victim's" physician that this is the case. Or none that I've read.

Anthony Roberts wrote a blog. He won't reveal his source, naturally, but he has backed away from stating that Lipolyze caused the woman's liver failure. For good reason, I suspect. I'll bet there's no actual lawsuit and that this is a case of an ambulance chaser trying to reach into the nearest deep pocket.

Really looking forward to the entire story being told.

you're probably not an idiot and don't megadose it, like what idiots do, hence someone having liver failure.

People that had liver failure were taking as much as 1,360 mg of usnic acid a day!! Lipolyze has only 12mg per pill!

Notice the Anthony Roberts? Not only is he a moron, that whole article is probably fabricated. It is full of erroneous, improbable, and inaccurate statements. For example, she was in the hospital and got a new liver the next morning... just short of a miracle, eh? People wait and wait and wait and wait for organs... and she gets one if a few short hours? Doubt it... Even if someone donated a lobe of their liver it would take time to find, test, and prep a friend/family member for surgery/transplant.

The only REAL case of usnic acid causing hepatotoxicity (liver/hepatic failure) that I have seen is on the Mayo's website. However, this article from Mayo notes that the couple (husband and wife) was taking an insane amount of usnic acid... not the 24mg (or whatever) that is in a stack of Lipo/Somalyze

Marketed as a weight-loss product, UCP-1 contains 150 mg of usnic acid, 525 mg of l-carnitine, and 1050 mg of calcium pyruvate per capsule. She and her husband had taken the recommended dosage of 3 capsules 3 times a day in 2-week cycles.
    Do the math... 150mg x 3 pills, 3 times a day...

Bodybuilding.com is probably being over cautious regarding their supplements.
They've pulled A TON of supplements, not just Lipo/Somalyze. Aparently, they have a history of doing this.

    Like Curt said

They've pulled some anti-aromatase products.. for example, Gaspari Nutrition's Novodex-XT

There was a study done where they noticed problems with it but that was on lab rats fed it which doesn't neccessarily translate to the human body.
Dave mentions this in a new magazine I got at the Arnold called Muscle Insider (I think that was the one, I'll have to check when I get back home) Anyway they have a Dr with a column talking about how bad it is for you with all this "medical information" Then Dave in the very same magazine in his column refutes what that Dr. says by stating that the study he was referencing was done on rats and what looks to harmful to them doesn't neccessarily translate to humans and what's on paper doesn't always translate to reality in the body. I'm sure I'm doing a disservice to his column he wrote but I'm trying to just go off of what I remember. If nobody's posted the column in its entirety I'll do so when I return.

I think people still remember the syntrax fiasco. A lot of reports of liver failure with that. Dose was MUCH MUCH higher.

I always have to question the FDA's priorities with stuff like this...

Tons of people, including myself, have used both of these supplements safely with good results, at a drastically lower percentage than those who have used these products with problems.

If I take a single dose of Ny-Quil, I'm fine. If I drank 5 bottles of Ny-Quil, I'm in the ER, but I don't see the FDA cracking down on that.
