Wow! Well I def have learned a lot!

But seriously, I did get something out of this thread.

And hopefully you guys wont crucify me, but I do see Gunner's point. I mean I love mac nut oil and use the Species brand daily. BUT to advertise the health benefits of the O3 to O6 content in a product that has such a small amount is like Coca-Cola proclaiming the benefits of the protein in their Gatorade G-Series (8 measely grams btw)...it's so small as to not really matter when compared to the rest of a person's diet. Yeah, it's there, and yeah you're getting some protein, but really, if you're trying to get protein you really need to be eating something protein based! And no, I am not saying that it is bad that there is protein in this Gatorade drink, but I think all of us from the lifting community know how silly it is to proclaim the benefits of only 8 grams of protein to help recovery. I mean, if you're going to do it, atleast put 20 grams in for heaven's sake! For them to act like this small amount of protein is actually going to make a dent into the recovery needs of a hard training athlete is laughable...but that is MARKETING (b/c the majority of the public is ignorant in this area).

    IN THE SAME HAND...

yes mac oil has the awesome 1:1 ratio of efa's, but seriously is using 1-2 tbsp of the stuff per day really going to supply you with anything worthwhile...NO! You need to take a supp/eat food that actually has large enough amounts to make a dent in our health. Yes, is getting some better than getting none, of course! BUT, that doesn't negate the fact that the small amount in the product is not going to make a dent in our omega 6 dominant diet. That being the case, I see this too being more of a marketing tactic than an actual benefit that it will offer.

But I digress. Thoughts, hate mail, opinions welcome!

^^Exactly, he is marketing his product perfectly understandable but, mac nut oil's only real unique benefit is it's high smoke point. All the other benefits can be easily obtained elsewhere & the omega 3 claim is nonsense, likewise is the benefit of the 3/6 matching ratio.

If your concern is the balance of these omega 3/6 fatty acids, just supplement with omega 3's. Western diets are full of omega 6's this product will not regress that balance.

Excellent post guys, thanks. I love the feedback and differences of opinions.
I think the whole reason why I was so concerened was because one for balance of the 3's to 6's because Dave says that taking in an equal balance of these is best and that his product has this 1:1 ratio and that it's better than Flax oil.

"What's the best source of essential fatty acids (EFAs) that delivers an equivalent amount of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats? Flax seed oil, you might suggest? The answer is a resounding, NO! Flax seed oil, while being a healthy source of Omega-3 fats, has a very low percentage of Omega-6 fats. Macadamia nut oil has an excellent ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids, 1:1.*"

In reality I can deduce that Mac oil is simply a good monounsaturated fat and a poor source of Omega 3's. What little is in it is a 1:1 ratio but cannot be enough of a benefit or the only source of omega 3's in your diet. I can get Flax oil for a little over 3 bucks from swansons which is high in omega 3's. I also know that Flax doesn't have the EPA/DHA that is enough (since it has to convert to it) so actual fish oil is still needed for this benefit. Thanks guys.

So is this false advertising? Saying that Mac oil is "the best source?"

I love the diet but there are a lot of polyunsaturated fats from all the peanuts/peanut butter. A good mono would be good but still need flax apparently which is another poly.
