Marion Jones Joins the WNBA!
How the legendary runner is returning to the limelight.

Life is a series of highs and lows, times where everything is full of such sparkling clarity and happiness that seemingly nothing could ever dream of changing it, and times where the weight of the world is so crushing and dark that escape seems inarguable impossible.
Yes, life is definitely a roller coaster ride, and no one knows that better than Marion Jones.
Jones, a phenomenal natural athlete, turned to sports in high school after the death of her step-father. What began as an outlet for her grief grew into a calling as her athletic gifts put her on the fast track to stardom, and when I say fast, I mean FAST.
This girl could rocket. By the age of 15 she was routinely dominating California high school athletics both on the track and on the basketball courts.
Marion chose to attend the University of North Carolina, where she was an important part in securing a National Championship. Deciding to focus solely on track and field afterward, Jones would go on to win numerous awards, including five Olympic Medals, three of them Gold.
Life was good.
Then it wasn't.
Jones admitted in 2007 to lying to federal agents about her use of steroids dating back to before the 2000 Olympics. She was stripped of her medals by the International Olympic Committee and received a six month prison sentencing for perjury.
Her world turned upside down in a heartbeat, Marion Jones watched all she worked for crumble around her.
But life can't keep you down forever.
Amid the ashes of her shame, Jones has set out to forge a new identity for herself amid the WNBA. She signed on with the Tulsa Shock on March 10th 2010 and as the leagues oldest rookie at 34, made her debut Saturday night against the Minnesota Lynx.
She played only 4 minutes of uninspired basketball, earning one foul, but its a beginning. A first step in the rise back to greatness perhaps?
“I’m learning as I go,” Jones said, surrounded by reporters as she sat in her locker after the game. “I know that it’s going to take time for things to kind of come together with me.”
Like life, this will be chalk full of ups and downs for her, but something tells me she will be racing to the front of the pack faster than anyone could imagine.

She has not played organized basketball in a long time so she will have a lot of learning and adjusting to do. The coaching staff can make the most of her talents and make things a little easier for her by having simple fast break plays for her. When the center or anyone gets a defensive rebound, just toss the ball down court and have Marion run after it for a quick layup. They should position her close to the top of the key or the midcourt like a stationary guard and be ready for the fast break.

Marion is one of the freakiest athletes of our time. I'm sure a woman with those talents, a little bit of passion and a few months of playing with pros in any female sport and she'll be rising to the top.

Obviously not but I like my odds of being correct. She actually went to UNC on a basketball scholarship, not track. Had she not been a track athlete she would have been a first round WNBA pick.
Jones was the starting point guard, as a freshman, on the Tar Heels team that won the national championship in 1994. Her career scoring average of 16.8 points per game is third in North Carolina history, and she remains in the top seven all-time in program history in steals, assists and blocks.

i live in OK about an hour from Tulsa, where she's playing. her first game she played about 3:19 and had zero stats. her and the team are a joke. nobody cares about watching the wnba.
for people who don't live in Oklahoma, there is kind of a rivalry between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. OKC got the Thunder and Tulsa thought, "oh no, now we have to try and get some kind of a team." stupid...

Court rust is real. Just like ring rust, or any other type of rust. Just ask Michael Jordan. Even though he was the best basketball player to ever live, he was never able to get back to where he once was after leaving baseball and playing for the Wizards.
Having world class athleticism in one sport doesn't always translate over to another sport. Again....just ask Michael Jordan.
Besides, only bull dikes and retards follow the WNBA.
