and the last horse finally crosses the finish line...
@john romano - what exactly would/could the 'powers that be' do about it? the vast majority of shows dont even reward the winner enough to in prizes to cover his prep. as it is, these guys have to scrounge for every dime they can. if the ifbb or npc cracks down on this sort of thing as unfair, will there be anything to replace the weekend contract money? most guys will never get any sort of sponsorship deal, and hoping to get a couple of bucks on a weekend is probably the most they can hope for.
i think this is partly the fault of the way bodubuilding gives out pro-cards. there are tons of guys that get a card (especially in the light weight classes) that will never amount to anything of note in the fitness industry, yet they continue on because, 'well, im a pro now'. they work a normal job perhaps, and think a short contract is some sort of in for them. unlike other sports, where you join the pro ranks and are more or less set for life, as long as you arent a complete fool (i.e. jamarcus russel)
what is the solution? a bodybuilder union?

Never happen with the fear of being "blacklisted" by the powers that be, which is ass backwards because w/o the competitors, there can be no show.
Not that cannot work, the past attempts to gain leverage by competitors has been sabotaged from the inside. If competitors would get organized, and understand that much of the control of how things are run can be influenced by them, only then you will start to see true changes.

I read the article but it is not really clear who he is talking about? Sorry, I have not been on this site very long. What magazine is he referring to? Can anybody help?
Personally, I do not understand what business sense this makes to give out exclusive contracts. Do these magazine owners giving out exclusive contracts ever watched the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL. They all give interviews to the players before and after the games to grow the sport.
Seems like the magazine owners are not helping the sport get more publicity. I can see giving money for a photo shoot and an interview but allow other companies to do that as well as the Bodybuilder needs to make money when he is in shape.

How can anyone complain about an issue like this when all I saw was praise for Bob Chicorello, all I ever see him post is about what a great job he has done for the BB's LOL
