So everyone thinks is perfectly okay for Gaspari to advertise a product as a Libido enhancer even though it does the opposite. So much fuckin dogma around here. Yeah caveat emptor, but this bs advertising has to stop. If it didn't influence people they wouldn't do it. And its downright wrong. Not a suable offense today, but the FTC needs to crack down on this shit. And I don't give a fuck who it puts out of business. I think you should be able to sell whatever you want, from crack to creatine, but you need to be HONEST about what it is and not make false or unsubstantiated claims. This goes for ALL marketing, beyond supplements.

My beef is just with misleading marketing in general. I am more anti-health claims on food than anything else. Marketing has reached entirely new levels of sophistication and its going to cost us our happiness. It really is. From birth now we are inundated with one consistent message "you need THIS to be happy". That's the core marketing message for pretty much everything. This shapes our psyche in a very dangerous way. It's very true that you can see advertising for what it is (i.e Axe, coincidentally I am working on an Axe promotion right now with Dr. Drew), however, should those that dont see through it (and there are millions - otherwise advertisers would be out of business) be penalized for it? We've come a long way from "Be sure to drink your ovaltine", the fact that most havent noticed is a testament to how effective marketing has become. (BTW, w/o marketing I would be out of a job)

You know what I see it as? Thinning the herd. Or thinning the herd of its money. People should be aware of what they're buying and if a commercial hoodwinks someone then it's that customer's participation in the scam that allows that hoodwinking to occur.

Excellent quote! I truly think the evolution of marketing tactics over the past 40 years has compounded this sentiment exponentially. Look at most 18-20-somethings (I said most not ALL)... a very common trait is their heir of entitlement. "I deserve this... this is my right." Absent is the sense of "I must earn this." Then look at one of the core tenets of marketing... 1. You need this to be happy. 2. You deserve this 3. This will help you procreate. 4. This will ensure social acceptance.

Too many very smart people are at work manipulating the masses. We've never had communication on this level before. it should be interesting (IMO scary) to see it play out.

Okay now back to what the thread is supposed to be about...
