it may be just me and my conspiracy theories, but with coke/pepsi/gatorade getting into the protein market, this would be a great scare tactic to tell people to "dont buy theirs and buy ours" instead.

Being from the other side of the 'pond' you may not be aware of the move in the states to regulate the supplement industry. It is, I believe, Senator Waxman that is behind the move for regulation of the vitamin and supplement industry. Therefore, it was not surprising to me that the release of this "study" was done in such a pervasive way, with it being all over the evening news, so as to create a sensational campaign of fear amongst the public.
Most average folks don't think much about their over the counter supps., unless of course you scare the B'Jesus out of them by such late night news teasers such as "Could Your Protein Drinks be Poisoning You?" If the average Joe gets scared enuf to become even aware enuf of the issue of supplement regulation he will back any legislative measures to regulate the supplement industry. Senator Waxman was the moron senator, the absolute ignoramus, that was interviewed for the Chris Bell movie, Stronger Better Faster, who opined that 'steroids kill', despite the fact that there lacks a scientific and/or a statistical basis for his opinion.
We can thank these scaremongers for the removal of many of the supps from shelves of Bodybuilding.com and GNC, etc.

Exactly why unsubstantiated claims need to be done away with. Sell whatever you want, but don't be misleading in your claims.
Also, the evening news is not "in on it". They just sensationalize for ratings. "The thing you do every day that is killing you. Story at 11." It's just bs and they do it with everything. BTW, breathing kills us every day - and to come full circle back to heavy metal... "as soon as we're born we're dying!!!!"

I read that article and from viewing the list, I think the higher quality pure protein products would have less metals and other potentially hazardous ingredients. It seems the "blend/multiple protein" products have more.
I second the true protein comment, and doubt they have much of any of those in there, especially when you use only 1 or 2 of the higher quality proteins in your mix.

Yeah I'm caught right in the middle of the cola wars right now because Coke is the title sponsor of the MTV VMAs for the first time in forever and Muscle Milk wants to sponsor the radio remote (which I handle). I have such disdain for both companies. I know I sound like a broken record around here, but I hate this business of marketing and wish I wasn't so good at it. I will make amends somehow.
