Bill Wilmore Gives Reasons He May Or May Not Do the 2010 Olympia
In an interview tonight on IFBB Pro Don Longs' Audio show Big Bill Wilmore revealed some interesting points as to whether or not he will push to participate in his forth Olympia or not. "It's not enough for me to just go to the Olympia," Wilmore said. "When you first start out in bodybuilding it is a dream of yours. Now all those guys are my fellow competitors and friends and everything else and a lot of times at the Olympia unfortunately it is so competitive and there are so many good guys you need a little bit of momentum going into a show like that. A lot of times even at the press conference you can be at the Mr. Olympia and they won't ask you one question."
I've seen this at various pro show press conferences and thought actually that Dave Palumbo is one of the best interviewers at these events as with the Tampa Pro going to each athlete and getting a few words from them. What will it take to get Big Bill on the Olympia stage in 2010? "If I can make a lot of changes like I think I can and I can get some people talking about me and stuff like that it makes more sense for me to do it," Wilmore said. And that makes sense to me. I say let's get talking about Big Bill Wilmore!

Has he even qualified to compete? If he has he should, that's the goal for the pro bodybuilder...He may not get another opportunity.

He says in the interview that he is not qualified yet and is focused on the Europa specifically. It takes so much time, energy, commitment, blood, sweat and "money" to compete at the highest level.
If all we are going to get in pre-Olympia coverage is four or five guys with big sponsorship and media contracts getting played up why should the other guys feel obligated to make the investments mentioned above?

I agree with him. I also say make the improvements(which he has been doing the past couple years) and see where it takes you.
Definetly an underrated pro, and he should have a contract with a top company by now.

If you want to compete on the world's biggest stage, then you know what you've got to do. The fact that you're not the star of the show or the media darling is inconsequential - either you want to be in the showcase or you don't.
Some people want it, some people don't. The payoff is what it is and it's not worth it to everyone. As such, however, the rare few who get the opportunity to compete on the Olympia stage generally do not take it for granted. If he wants to be there, he should go for it, but that's a personal decision which, as you noted, does require a lot of different considerations....and a lot more sacrifices than 99% of us could ever make.
Naturally, bikini is excepted from this conversation.

Kind of contradictory to some extent, but I hear what you are saying and agree. Sometimes you have to make your own stir even if they don't give you a chance. I think that is what he was eluding to in the guys at this level at least needing some fans helping them rally through not only making a bs sort of stir, but actually helping to motivate them.
True, true, yet your words could be put in different order and still be true with a different emphasis. Bill makes the sacrifices and is one of the rare few who MAKES his opportunity to compete on the Olympia stage, doesn't take it for granted, but is the payoff worth it if you have to go it alone or with little acknowledgment? Been there done that maybe? How can anyone actually retire if they are still in good condition and not be similarly questioned as to their appreciation for their gifts and abilities that others can only imagine? I don't know.

Bill is an awesome guy worked with him at Bodywell last yr he is a class act, and really funny. He is nice to all his fans & to everybody the sport needs more Bill Wilmore's! He got robbed last yr at one of the shows Dennis James beat him & he shouldnt have. Bill was peeled, I cant remember it couldve been Dallas Europa or Tampa show cant remember. I def understand what he is saying though about going to the Olympia. Hopefully he reaches his goals & stays healthy!
