Australian running back Jarryd Hayne is retiring from the NFL after one season, choosing instead to pursue a chance to compete with the Fiji Rugby Sevens in this summer's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.


Hayne, 28, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in March 2015 after he gave up a lucrative rugby career in Australia to take a shot at the NFL. While Hayne was born in Australia, his father, Manoa Thompson, is Fijian. Hayne previously represented Fiji in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. He played for Australia at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

The NFL believes the Baltimore Ravens were aware of noncontact practice rules at a recent minicamp but still moved forward, which will factor into any potential discipline, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.


The team is being investigated for using full pads at a recent rookie minicamp, which is a violation of the collective bargaining agreement. There was a five-minute period on May 6 when rookies and first-year players suited up in pads during a noncontact punt protection drill.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For the second offseason in a row, the Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round draft pick went down with a knee injury, but the one that cornerback Jalen Ramsey suffered isn't as serious as the one that cost defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. his 2015 season.


The Jaguars said Ramsey suffered a small tear to the meniscus in his right knee during Phase 2 of the conditioning program May 6-7. A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Ramsey was hurt during a drill but didn't know it at the time. Ramsey's knee was sore after practice, the source said, leading to an MRI the next day that revealed the small tear.

Here's what Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item 2 of the NFL's 2015 rulebook says about jersey-related style statements. The relevant part is in bold for those of you who want to minimize your gobbledygook consumption this weekend.


"Jersey must cover all pads and other protective equipment worn on the torso and upper arms, and must be appropriately tailored to remain tucked into the uniform pants throughout the game. Tear-away jerseys are prohibited. Mesh jerseys with large fishnet material (commonly referred to as 'bullet-hole' or 'port-hole' mesh) are also prohibited. Surnames of players in letters a minimum of 2½ inches high must be affixed to the exterior of jerseys across the upper back above the numerals; nicknames are prohibited. All jerseys must carry a small NFL Shield logo at the middle of the yoke of the neck on the front of the garment. All fabrics must be approved by the League office prior to production."

According to ESPN's Jim Trotter, the Ravens were fined $343,057 and Harbaugh was fined $137,223.

Stolen laptop of Redskins trainer contained players' medical info
ASHBURN, Va. -- A laptop containing the medical records of thousands of NFL players was stolen from the car of a Washington Redskins trainer last month, the team said in a statement on Wednesday, confirming a storyfirst reported by Deadspin.


According to a letter from the NFLPA that was obtained by Deadspin, the stolen medical records were of every player who went through the NFL scouting combine from 2004 through 2016, as well as current Redskins players. The backpack also contained a zip drive and hard copies of the medical records, the letter said.


"It's very bad," one league source said of the situation.


According to a Redskins statement, the laptop was taken on April 15 in downtown Indianapolis, where a thief broke the window of a car belonging to one of the team's trainers and stole his backpack.

Johnny Manziel sued for damages to L.A. rental home

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been sued for causing "extensive damage" to a Los Angeles home he rented in April, according to the attorney representing the owner of the property.
Attorney Niki Ghazian, representing Nicholas Goodwin of The Goodwin Group Inc., said her client is seeking more than $40,000, according to TMZ. The lawyer said the suit was filed in the Central District of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Goodwin alleges Manziel, who stayed at the property April 4-6, agreed to assurances that the property was to be used strictly for his own personal and private use, and agreed to pay a $10,000 fine if more than 15 people came to the house at one time.

The Eagles confirmed Friday that they are aware of a police investigation into wide receiver Nelson Agholor, who reportedly has been accused of sexually assaulting a dancer at a Philadelphia strip club.


The Philadelphia Police Department did not name Agholor as a suspect but announced that the alleged assault took place Thursday afternoon at Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club in South Philadelphia. Police said in a statement that an allegation was made "regarding a sexual assault and a member of the Philadelphia Eagles organization."


Philadelphia magazine, which reported the incident earlier Friday, identified Agholor as the Eagles player under investigation.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden had surgery on a broken right elbow on Tuesday that could keep him out of the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants.


Coach Jason Garrett said the injury happened over Memorial Day weekend at McFadden's house. McFadden fell on the elbow trying not to drop his cell phone, Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown said.


McFadden took part in last week's organized team activities, wearing a protective sleeve on his arm, but he did not say anything to the team's athletic training staff until Friday.
