I like the one arm dumbbell press idea. Like in the strongman competitions. Every rep from the floor (with two hands if desired) them one arm only from the shoulder to above the head, then back to the floor. in the Strongman comps, the dumbell is 172 pounds, so for this, maybe 120 pound dumbell for reps, 150?

a grip endurance event would be my choice.
do a dumbbell or plate hold for time.

You could do the 100 yard dash with a loaded up weight sled.
That would be an easy set up and you could run the event in the parking lot of a gym, Max Muscle, GNC, ect. All you'd need is a good quality sled, some plates, some cones to mark off the racing track and a stopwatch. You could also set up some tents and offer protein/carb/energy drink samples and you could run a bbq or bento stand for the fans and the competitors who are done with their dragging.

how about clean and press challange? you got to pick up the weight from the floor and press it up... no one can cheat on that..
