This was during the plan B free agency era. And I think we traded for both Byner and Gersld Riggs in 1989. After his stint in Washington, Byner re signed with Cleveland, then the Ravens until he retired and became part of the coaching staff before joining Coach Gibbs here on his 2nd tenure.

I do agree that this public display of his was uncalled for. Trades and new signings happen all the time, but I do not recall press conferences being held for them. That sounds very attention whorish.

You're right on both.
People can accept change and if LeBron had been humble and demonstrated gratefulness in a quiet departure, he'd be loved by millions as 'poor LeBron'. Instead, he chose to have millions hate him. That's his choice and because he's a loser, that's what should be expected of him.
