Why does it matter if I can hold 315 with my bare hands vs straps? Mike said it best if you want to improve your grip improve your grip, if you want to work your back then do what ever it takes to work your back. This is a pretty senseless argument.

not senseless at all.
i am a good example of straps always...for most of the time i have lifted with straps. this affected my grip to the point that i suffered from tendonitis. i started training grip and the tendonitis went away. i also relied less on straps.
straps are a tool to be used when necessary but not as a crutch that they have become for a lot of people.

I've never seen or heard of someone losing a bodybuilding show because of small forearms or lack of grip strength. Strongmen do use straps from time to time but also do grip "specific" training as do powerlifters. I just really don't see what the big deal is, if your grip is weak train it vs if your back is small because you limit yourself to what your hands can hold? Makes no sense.

How come people want to train quads, chest, back whatever once a week. But seem to think you should train grip every workout.

I actually train grip on it's own day usually (but not always) when I train forearms. I use CofC grippers and other grip and pinch type exercises with plates and oversize handles as well as standard forearm exercises like wrist curls and reverse curls, roll ups etc etc as part of my weeks training plan.
The reason for the use of straps is not for 1 rep exercises as shown in the pic of franco or arnold. It's when my grip fails on the 4th rep of a heavy set and straps let me get out a few more reps to train the muscle group I'm targeting.

s2h - and if you train DC style, DC has a FIXED number of reps (well, not exactly, but you go heavy enough so that its pretty hard for your grip to fail period).
Example - sets of 6 barbell rows at the end of day B. If the number of reps you do is FIXED, why would you wear straps if your grip is strong enough to handle the load? Only other bodypart you're even hitting the grip on is back width.. Just askin...
