Would you still have to be certified to administer cpr? From my understanding of it, you have to keep getting re-certified every year to perform it.

^Ha! Beat me to it.
re posting YouTubes, click the and then strip all the junk pre = sign and post (including) & sign (if that appears in the URL.
It should look like this [ YOUTUBE] 4ArXuQwjj7Q[/YOUTUBE] (minus the spaces, of course).
That's an interesting point. I always thought the certification was simply paperwork that some companies or occupations require.
You don't actually have to have a certification to attempt to save someone's life. I suspect that some kid who watched any of those YouTubes or followed the link that Dave provided would be able to save someone's life even if they weren't certified.

Some states have a law that protects the person giving cpr or first aid. Arkansas is one of those states.

Its called the "Good Samaritan" act. It protects you if you are trying to help someone.
You do not have to be certified to perform CPR, thats why 911 operators give CPR instructions over the phone.
The goal of CPR is not to restart the heart. The goal is to keep the brain perfused until the heart can be restarted either with drugs or defibrillation. But a precardial thump in a witnessed arrest can deliver up to 25j...FYI
