I've seen great results w/ the big 3 - Protan, Jan Tana, Liquid SunRayz. Dreamtan can get dicey if you're sloppy about it or rub on things, and it tends to give an interesting bronze color. Altho it can get pricey, the spray tan jobs I've seen for all 3 of the above, done by an "official tanning service" for your show have all been great and done in 2 coats or so, instead of spending 3-4 days putting on layer after layer w/ the help of a friend. And then you can ask about touch ups as well.

Otherwise if you do your own, make sure you've got a little spare to touch up if needed. Usually over the course of the day you'll get sweat lines or dry cracking so good to touch up.

thanks for the reply! i'm looking into the jan tana. so should i apply the tan then their moisturizer the night before or the day of the show??

I'm not familiar w/ the whole line of Jan Tana products -but generally once you have the product on, you don't want to put on any other stuff that will screw up the tan layer. You'd probably be putting the moisturizer on prior to your first layer to prep for the tan. Once it gets on, I know protan tends to dry you out pretty quickly.

I'm not sure if you've ever put on any competition tan, but plan to do at least 2 layers - the first is a dark "cover everything thick" foundation layer, let that dry, generally at least for a couple hrs so its past tacky, and then another layer for full coverage and color. This you'd probably let dry over nite, and potentially do some touch up in the morning before the show. Jan Tana also makes a makeup foundation that matches the spray - I know a lot of the guys just spray their faces, but personally I like the foundation because you can put it on right before the show as if you were putting on makeup, you don't have to let it dry (and this it won't cake or crack) and then it washes off easily when you're all done. You can often see people who put several layers on their bodies, but not enough on their faces and they end up looking two-toned under the lights. Again, the foundation makeup will go on dark enough and matches to the tanner perfectly.

It's not a spray but I personally use and like Dream Tan #2 formula. You should always be tanning before the show. You will need probably at least 2-3 coats at a minimum. Those stage lights really lighten you up. I didnt have enough on during my pre-judging and added 2 more coats for the finals and I looked so much better. I think I had like 4 coats on.
