Anyone ever drink wine during prep?
It's a damn hard habit to break even during prep...a cup a night can't hurt can it?
It's like 14% alcohol lol

Years ago in a show I was in a guy decided to drink a little wine backstage to help his vascularity. He was so dehydrated and carb depleted that he couldn't stop drinking. He wasn't looking to good. He ended up running off stage during the judging and barfed all over the floor. We had to exit the stage stage-right instead of stage-left after that.

When I competed in Natural Shows back in 90&91 my trainer had me sip on wine while pumping up for vascalarity. Worked pretty well and I didn't have any issues.

I would never drink alcohol during prep, as it's empty calories. Better to have the calories in the form of protein or carbs. However sipping on a little red wine back stage does bring up vascularity.

I had one trainer let me have a glass of wine to help fall asleep during prep - that whole prep was pretty much a disaster. IMO, a few, very few, won't kill you, but it is just one more thing that can stall out your metabolism that you're working so hard to optimize.

I started collecting and tasting wines this past spring, so I had to look into it as it has became a consistent entry in my diet now.
Red Wine
For a 3.5oz glass of red wine, around 103g, the USDA found 91g of water and 9.6g of alcohol. That's pretty much all of it. There were .3g of ash, .2g of protein, and 1.8g of "Carbohydrate, by difference". This does NOT mean it has carbohydrates! It means there is something else that doesn't fit into the categories listed. This is probably glyerine, which is a form of alcohol. The USDA lists the drink as creating 74 calories.
White Wine
For a 3.5oz glass of white wine, again at 103g, the USDA 92g of water and 9.5g of alcohol. White wines tend to be lower in alchol than red wines. Again, not much else was found in the wine. There was .2g of ash, .1g of protein and 0.8g of "Carbohydrate, by difference". The calories for white wine are at 70 calories - again, because all calories in wine come from alcohol, and this has less alcohol than the red wine.
A 750ml bottle of wine will generally contain between 300 and 500 calories.
