An interesting footnote to the 2010 MLB season is that pitcher Barry Zito rooted against his own team (San Francisco Giants) in the World Series, according to his memoir being published this week. The article explains that he had had a less than stellar pitching season & the team removed him from its roster in the post. He was pissed about it & said he let his ego get the best of him. The Giants went on the win the Fall Classic, & Zito pitched for a couple more seasons, sometimes effectively, & then crossed the bay bridge & pitched for the Oakland Athletics for three more seasons before retiring.Last edited by hifrommike65; 09-17-2019 at 02:39 PM.

The Nats are sitting pretty going into the post without Harper on the team. Harper was great, but he came w/ a lot of drama. His departure was the best thing that happened to them. I've seen it before. The M's played better after Junior left the team. Teammates tend to step back & defer to the superstar ("Hit it here, Junior"), because he's the one who's supposed to get the glory. They tend to step up when no superstar is around. & the Nats did step up this year. A great field manager (Dave Martinez) helped as well.

The Rays finished off the Athletics in the AL wild card game. The A's cannot win a winner-take-all game. They've lost nine of them in a row.Last edited by hifrommike65; 10-03-2019 at 03:09 AM.

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has started the psychological warfare between teams by warning the Dodgers, who had the best record of wins (106) in their history as a team.
Walker Buehler will start game 1 of the NLDS for the Dodgers.
