Well, I got my bloodwork results back.
My AST, ALT values did drop.... by nearly 40 points each. I took 8 days off from training, plus I took a liver support supplement.
External factors showed negative across the board, and I satisfied all the major
risk factors.
Still, taking inspiration from Jimmy McMillian... "The numbers are too d*** high!!!"
So, my next course of action is additional bloodwork for hepatitus D (I was negative for B & C), an ultrasound, AND....... a biopsy. Bloodwork has to be within 3 days of the ultrasound/biopsy.
.... stay tuned.

** Update ***
Went for Ultrasound and Biopsy, however, the radiology lab would not do the two together, so I just got the Ultrasound done. The results were negative, although it did report an enlarged bile duct.
I also just got bloodwork done for Hep A and D. I'm awaiting the results of those.
Followed up with doctor today, and he's still taking a conservative approach. He's looking at the biopsy as a last result, and his opinion, all the numbers are asymptomatic.
*** However, he does want an MRI done after the ultrasound.
So in short, the search continues, with very little found, and more money spent. So far, $90 for co-pays at the doctor's office, with another $30 next month for the followup to the MRI.
That's a lot of protein money right there, lol!!!

Why is the search still going on?
Why not just wait 3 months and re-draw the liver tests? If still high then continue this investigation.

Update:
Hep A and D results were negative.
Went for MRCP on 1/11. The results of those were negative.
Had additional bloodwork drawn on 1/19. The liver enzymes levels are still high.
Next course of action IS the liver biopsy
Why not just wait 3 months and re-draw the liver tests? If still high then continue this investigation.

also to be honest my liver enzymes are always high even if i havent taken anything in 6 months. the only time i had liver enzymes that were normal was when i didnt train for 1 whole week then got a blood test. liv52 does help some but the muscle damage from training seems to cause a false high on the test even thought very few doctors will admit or acknowledge it. good luck and let us know if u need anything else.

Next step...... My doctor is thinking it may be Wilson's disease.
I'm going for 2 more tests - 1.) a 24hr urine test for copper levels, even though previous bloodwork tests shows copper levels normal
2.) An eye exam to check for Kayser-Fleischer rings around the iris, which is considered a symptom for those who have the disease.
I figured I'm due for eye exam anyway, and I just did the urine, which is non-evasive. So we'll see where we are in a few weeks.Last edited by PTB; 04-14-2011 at 12:53 PM.
