Pullovers: Do with Chest or Lat day? Or skip them? Also: Hammer trength Pullover vs Dumbell
Hi All,
I remember the days at PSU when we would stretch over a flat bench and do lots of pullovers. Always confused if Pullovers did more than just anterior serratus.
I never seem to do these anymore... Maybe cause it is hard on the shoulder. Do you do pullovers? Do you do them on Chest or LAT day?
Anyone have experience with the PLATE LOADED Hammer Strength Pullover machine? Recommend or not?
Thank-you...

I do them with back.
Never used a machine, just DB.

I like to do dumbbell pullovers as last exercise in my back workout.
I've used both the plate-loaded machine and the pin-selected machine. I personally did not like the plate loaded b/c passed a certain angle their is no real downward gravitational resistance from the plates (I guess it also depends on how the machine is built to where the plates are placed as well).
But what I've recently come to like is standing cable "pullovers" (a la Jay Cutler) with a rope so that I can bring the handles passed my hips and get a really good squeeze/contraction.

I have experience with the hammer strength pullover. I like it, really good stretch in the lats like nothing else. My only complaint is the bar isn't adjustable (I'd prefer it a tad shorter range on my arms) and the elbow pads aren't ideal. I'm not huge, but my back is reasonably wide, and my lats rub against the pads awkwardly. But I think you could probably spec them off.
Doing pullovers lying across a bench and on a machine are two different exercises as far as I can see.

I've always done them as part of a back workout. I usually use dumbells unless the gym has one of the old fashioned Nautilus pullover machine. On the Nautilus I seem to really be able to feel my lats right under my armpits working. I've never used the Hammer version.

I like both, and i do them on back day. They both obviously feel a little different as well as if you do them with the rope like Dre mentioned. I never understood how people felt they were a chest exercise (maybe i'm sounding stupid here but it wouldn't be the first or last). I think the biggest thing is to make sure you really focus on pulling with you back muscles and not just moving the weight. To allow for a better squeeze do your DB pullovers on a decline bench, give it a whirl once. And yes i agree the end of back day is the best time to do them, light weight and real high rep stuff after you finish the "real" lifting

I do them on back day as a finisher. I don't use the dumbell anymore because my triceps get hit too hard. A good pullover machine is priceless !!!

Dumbell.
I really feel it in my upper lat.
Haven't yet found a machine that duplicates the intense stretch I get from dumbell pullovers; however, the Nautilus is the best I've tried. Bonus -- you can also use it for tri's by standing behind the seat and pushing.

I feel dumbbell pullovers in my triceps and lats. I really can't feel it in my chest at all.
Verdict- don't like them.
I'd LOVE to try a pullover machine.
