Dumbbell pullovers not a good risk vs. reward. Find a Nat. pullover machine.

Why do you do them on chest day when it's for the lats?

And I was referring to the effectiveness of building the lats up Db's vs Machine Nautilus.

I could see them being hard on shoulders, sure.

it is for upper chest if you do them the way I do them (which is the normal way), lats/triceps/shoulders are minor muscles and you do work them too thou, no denying that. but for me, db pullovers really blow my chest up.

a nautilus pullover is a completely different exercise and takes the chest out of much of it. I like nautilus pullovers too.

Alrighty, i had to update this because I discovered a new way to do pull overs (to me anyway) and i loved it as the last exercise on back day. I used the decline sit up bench w/ a low cable all the way down. Attach a straight bar (i'm sure just about any attachment would work) and the pull over movement. Give it a try, i thought it was great!

Old school Nautilus blue and chrome chain machine
overhand grip, stretch out the lats far behind your head on the negative. Lead with your elbows and explode on the postive, hold the bar down by your waist a second or two using primarly your lat muscle... killer last exercise

I never got anything from pullover machine or even DB pullovers. If i got anything out of a type of pullover exercise, it was straight arm pulldowns with the rope

I never seem to do these anymore... Maybe cause it is hard on the shoulder. Do you do pullovers? Do you do them on Chest or LAT day?

Anyone have experience with the PLATE LOADED Hammer Strength Pullover machine? Recommend or not?

    Thank-you...

The machine pullovers work the best though. If you can not feel the movement in your lats you are NOT doing the movement correctly. (i.e. going too heavy or your mind muscle connection sucks ass)

I totally agree! I think the mind/muscle connect is the biggest issue for most. I personally love pullovers (my normal gym doesn't have a machine) w/ the cables like i described to finish off. Great exercise!

    Default My new fav!!!!

Guys, I tried something new and thought that it was/is amazing. In our garage, we have a power rack with the pull up/ chin bar at the front. I set the safety bars up high with a 2x4 going across them so that my training partner could stand in the rack with his back against the 2x4 facing forward. I did pull ups, also facing forward, going as high and pulling elbows down and back as much as I could. When I get down to the bottom of each rep, my partner (with his back against the 2x4) is able to push me (his hands on my upper back) forward. This causes a much greater stretch on the lower lats as my head and torso go forward and hands remain on the bar, my elbows almost going behind my head. After one set, I was done! Had to move on to something else. The next day soreness was very surprising for lats. I hope that some of you try it.

I love the pullover machine! Nothing isolates my lats like it. A dumbell just hurts my shoulders way too much. But straight arm pullover are to work the pec minor, upper peck specifically. I noticed a guy said the machine does not have enough weight for him. No offense but judging by your pic, I can only guess your tri's and whatever other muslces are doing the work. Please don't take that as an attack, just trying to help. Try playing with your elbow placement on the machine and you will see how much of an impact this has on your lat recruitment.
