whats the best medication for insomnia?
it takes for ever for me to fall asleep its been like that since i can remember but lately its been getting worse, i have to lay there for at least 3 hours before i can sleep. my doctor wanted to put me on remeron but i dont want to take it because of the weight gain.
i was reading about lunesta and memory problems seem to be a big issue with it. is there any meds that can be taken long term and dont cause very many sides?

the only thing I've tried is Melatonin, it did help me get sleep faster but if I only had like 7 hours to sleep then I would feel somewhat groggy that day. I've heard good things of this product called Comatose. Dont know much about it though...
Good luck sleepin!!

the thing w/ klonopin as w/ remeron is that there not true sleep aides...they are both also very addictive...if you have ever had any substance abuse probs then there not a real good option....02...

What is the cause of the insomnia? ie: Stress, Shift work, life style change etc etc
When you do fall asleep how many hours are you sleeping for?
When you do fall asleep is it constant for ?? hours or are you waking up frequently?
What do you do right before bed?
Do you watch TV in bed?
when you wake up do you feel rested or is the insomnia wearing you out.
Any other info you can give me is good. I've found in most cases the cause of the insomnia dictates the treatment.Last edited by Sledge; 10-14-2010 at 04:08 AM.

don't try delta sleep inducing peptide. Took a heavy dose and fought a boner for 8 hours. seriously. ambien works for a few days then you get tolerant. klonopin makes me tolerant also, same with xanax. Trazadone gives me a migraine and doesn't work. i can fall asleep but not stay asleep.

As mentioned by previous posters, google "sleep hygiene" and try to change habits around sleeping....they can help
Chronic insomniac, its been a problem for me for the last 5 yrs or so.....trying to keep a schedule works the best, but its not always easy....
ive used zopiclone (a drug in the same class as lunesta; actually its stereoisomer) here and there for the last couple years.....was getting very habit forming so i havnt used it in the last couple months...
now i occasially use the Sub-lingual melatonin supps.....6-9mg can help fall asleep and stay asleep (wont be as powerful as Rx drugs, but its not bad, and without the sides)
Valerian root is another herbal supp you can try, as is tryptophan.
benzos like Klonopin (clonazepam) as well as the Z" drugs (zopiclone, eszopiclone "lunesta", and zoplidem "ambien", can be habit forming/additictive (although the Z' drugs are a lot less addictive) so caution when you being to use them regularly.

my doctor prescribed me the remeron but im not going to take it, i dont want the weight gain and it seems like memory loss is a common side effect of all the other sleep meds, something i cant afford lol. once i go to sleep i can stay asleep the thing is im just never tired, i always watch tv before i go to bed but even if i dont i just lay there. i usually sleep 5 hours, maybe ill give comatose a try

I myself have been on TRAZADONE for about 4/5 years. I was on 150mg every night, for 3 years. I had terrible anxiety, panic attacks, depression, from OCD/Body dysmorphia and a few other Disorders. Trazadone is used for people with Severe Panic disorder, bipolar disorder, Schitzophrenia, OCD, depression, and a few more things........NOW, well.......i havnt taken TRAZADONE in about 2 months, starting tonight though, im gonna start taking it again, simply because i dont sleep/go too sleep till about 4 or 5 in the morning. But now, My full MG i take is 50MG, but since i havnt been on it for a while, im gonna start with half of that, so 25mg and take that for about a week or two so my body gets use to it, I know how trazadone works, and if i took the full 50mg, with me not being on it for awhile, the first few days are ROUGH. Trazadone has a " hangover effect" simply because its basically a TRANQUILIZER, and basically knocks you out, well YOU say it doesnt WORK, but im the Opposite, it works VERY WELL for me.

I take TRAZADONE, but a few months back, i crashed at a buddys house for the night, and didnt have my meds with me, BUT my buddys dad takes REMERON, and a few other things, BUT he gave me 30mg of Remeron and about 20min later, i was fuckin OUT!!! That 30mg of Remeron felt like 150mg of TRAZADONE, which i took for 3 years!!
