physique division is the best call in a long time

Right next to the Bikini one.

Really i mean it, its VERY wise. it will be very GOOD for business.

Id like to see examples of what you guys think will be the winning look?

Id say Bob Paris like but a tad bit lighter

Depends on what you mean by best thing. Bikini division is the worst thing ever done to the female bodybuilders who have been training for years. Big slap in the face when an 18-year-old girl can come in and become a "pro" by barely working out.

Physique divsion for men? Even worse of an idea than bikini.

Does it always fucking have to be about $$! Cannot it be about what the sport is...was supposed to be...It was not about modeling...

It so much more complex....
Its about health,
Its about sustainable hobby/profession.
It about mass appeal....

Im involved in supps and formula etc.

Id like to market to a larger audience that is a bodybuilder in every sense, but not Ronnie Colman Style.

We have 2 options as of now....

A. Mens health which = nothing but just toned lol

B. Freaks

We need a middle ground........

Are they going to be able to switch to bodybuilding after they get a pro card? Because if so a bunch of guys who can't make it at the pro qualifiers will switch to this category and cross over at the pro level

I think they really need more 2 day shows. With all these categories, the shows are running so long now that I lose interest. You really have to be a fan of all the divisions to really enjoy a show in person now I think. Either that or just come in at the end. I don't enjoy sitting in a seat for 6 hours lol. With that being said, I think it's a good thing to have a division like this that will appeal to the general public. Think about it this way guys, if you get more people buying tickets to see these guys, theyre still buying tickets to the bodybuilding show as well. If more people are buying magazines to look at these guys, they're still supporting the bodybuilders in the magazines as well. I feel that many people are intimidated by bodybuilding and don't understand it, and you can't really blame someone for saying "I don't want to look like Ronnie Coleman, Jay cutler, Kai greene, etc etc". To me the reason bodybuilding isn't growing is because people don't want to look like the bodybuilders of today, and they aren't given an alternative, this can be their alternative. When you had people who looked like Arnold, I think it was a bit more mainstream than it is now, because people liked the way bodybuilders looked. The least we can do is give this division a chance.

This might bring in money, but it kind of sucks. I could do the physique comps right now with a few weeks of dieting. That doesn't say much. I've had 5yrs of health issues which have severely limited my training. Why don't they do something respectable like bring back a "Golden Age" Division? They want attainable physiques instead of Colemanesque type of size, bring back the classic look. They had respectable size, symmetry, and conditioning. Keep the sport and freaks progressing as is, and create a division for attainable physiques. Don't make this a beauty pageant for boys.

There's obviously going to be some issues that the NPC will need to iron out. But it will open up bodybuilding even further in the states much like how it has in Europe. If it kicks on like figure and bikini has already, maybe bodybuilding will be moving toward the women having stand alone competitions like times past?

It's a good move, people will still have the freaks but there will be others who will get inspired to new goals within physique development.

Message to the NPC, model what your doing to what's working for NABBA/WFF or European IFBB instead of the initially proposed board shorted fluff piece.

In my head, this is what I assumed they were going for all through this debate, but the board shorts thing kinda nixes that. id like to see arnold era posing trunks come back, rather than the "check my ass, fellas" trunks of today. i STILL cant get used to all the talk of "glutes coming in".

but then again, if this is about arnold-era physiques in board shorts, then im all for it.

I go to a bodybuilding show to see bodybuilders. If I wanted to see male models, which I dont, I would just turn on the tv. They are all over the channels there.

This is bad idea.

Good business decision for the NPC and promotors.
Bad for die hard bodybuilding fans.

Guess BSA will now get his pro card after all.
He's not gonna train all year and then pop on a pair of board shorts for next years Nationals.
Then he can cross over to bodybuilding in the pro ranks.
