I don't think the refs should be punished at all. Sure, they should have asked permission to use the whistles, but I'm sure it would have been granted. Pink is all over the NFL this month, and the local college team hosted a "pink tailgate party" for the Susan G. Komen foundation.
I know it's kinda startling to see pink on a football field, but the guys are just trying to make a statement to support the gals they know who have suffered breast cancer.

~ Ok I'd understand if they were blowing fuckin' trumpets instead of whistles or a party blower or some such shite ... but a PINK whistle is causing this kind of reaction?? Some people need to get their heads out of thier fuckin' asses and try and see the bigger issues of this world and not be so fuckin' small minded!! Seriously WTF was the harm?? It's not like they were wearing Devil Star t-shirts with a Hitler tash just for kicks!! ~

From the Mayo Clinic website:
Male breast cancer is cancer that forms in the breast tissue of men. Though breast cancer is most commonly thought of as a woman's disease, male breast cancer does occur.
Male breast cancer is most common in older men, though male breast cancer can occur at any age.
Men diagnosed with male breast cancer at an early stage have a good chance for a cure. Still, many men delay seeing their doctors if they notice unusual signs or symptoms, such as a breast lump. For this reason, many male breast cancers are diagnosed when the disease is more advanced.

Rules are rules... The rules say whistles have to be black.
I think you guys are missing the real point.
It's not that the whistles were pink, it's that the refs didn't check with the governing body to say, "Is it cool if we do this for a game or two".
I am pretty sure that if they had done that, then no one would have cared.
You can't just go and do what you want if it's against the rules.
I do think a suspension is a bit harsh though... How does that become a good idea?Last edited by Tu Holmes; 10-25-2010 at 10:47 AM. Reason: Oooh... my 666 th post. I need to just hang here for awhile. :)

The biggest single problem in this country is the lack of common sense.
The Washington Officials Association needed only to send emails to the violators telling them not to do it again without permission.
By threatening to suspend them, their existing book has come under scrutiny and its already been revealed that their guidelines do not specify that ONLY black whistles may be used. Pwnt.
