The death of female bodybuilding?
I have been reading about all the impending changes for female bodybuilding. It seems and has been said that female bodybuilding is phasing itself out. It is being pushed out not phased out on its own.
I think it is sad that the sport is going in the direction that it is. It is all about money and marketability. I do not believe that the new women’s physique division will draw more people in than female bodybuilding does already. Figure competitors are far too muscular for the average everyday Joe. To think that downsizing female bodybuilders to this mediocre “sport” is ludicrous in my opinion. The sport is a subculture and always will be. Many men think Venus Williams is too muscular or many female Olympic track and field athletes.
I feel like the sport I have been involved in for more than 2/3 of my life is being dismantled brick by brick. This is sad and many would just say it’s the progression of things…notice I left out “natural”. The fact is figure and even bikini girls use gear. Do the Female bodybuilders use more…. yes but they all use.
With the new men’s physique division getting ready to start I am wondering if perhaps I am going to have to look elsewhere to spend my time. Perhaps this is good. Perhaps I have spent too long and too much of myself on this endeavor. I have paid far more than most will ever pay and it is for the most part without regret but I must say I am not sure what I would do besides just train and lift for myself. I do not see male bodybuilding going to the way side anytime soon but I am not sure it will be what it is supposed to be 10 years from now. Lets face it is and always has been about getting as big as you can however you can.
I hope the people in charge actually know what they are doing with all this. We are defiantly heading for big changes in the sport it seems.

How many times have we heard that female bodybuilding is dying over the past 20 years? (Cue Steve Wennerstrom)
I'll believe it when I see it - and ultimately - it's up to the women as to whether or not FBBing will die.

I'll always do it whether there's a competition to compete in or not.

I think when the major show promoter in this country says they are not going to be doing anymore FBB shows, it is a pretty scarey thing to the women who have worked so hard at it.
They didn't monitor their judges, so now the gauntlet comes down on the women.

If the npc/ifbb couldn't get the judges to stick to the 20% rule, what makes us think they can do any better at this?

I never was one for wearing a label. I'll just do what I do, be the best I can be, compete where I feel like it and not worry about any of it. Bodybuilder, Physique, Whatever...

They scream they want smaller...this so called 20% less...but yet they continue to reward the BIG BIG girls on the Pro level when they have some that are smaller.
Isn't this kinda like saying one thing and doing another.
But yet on the National level the past few years they reward the softer ones that aren't nowhere as big as the prolevel. So then when these girls try to compete on the prolevel they are basically fucked for not being as big as the ones that win.
If your trying to prove a point or make a change....be consistant with the bullshit across the board and reward what they are asking us for.
hell I never wanted to be big, like being the size I am, so I will do this for me. Just not sure where I will fall when and if they ever figure this crap out.

I love bodybuilding!
I have way too much muscle for new physique and like to come in shredded. There are plenty of us who don't have to shave, have all our hair, don't look like men yet have built a good amount of muscle.
I will be out as much as I can in 2011 as a bodybuilder bringing the physique I like which I don't feel is extreme or masculine
I am very happy with how I look and will continue to be a bodybuilder
