Default Smart Phone Tips for Improved Web Browsing (Experience RX away from the home or office)...

As technology advances our lives change for the better (and sometimes worse. As much as I love Facebook, you basically sacrifice all you privacy). As time changes certain aspects of life are replaced and phased out. If you have yet to pick up a smart phone, whether Android, iPhone (I still think the blackberry screen severely limits internet browsing, so I am not going to include it here), you soon will be in the near future.

A few months back I decided to pick up the HTC EVO, which I can now not live without. It basically keeps me connected to everything; it has allowed me to network and expand my business like never before.

I wanted to share some simple tips for getting the most out of your new device so you can post on forums, check actual websites (not the watered down mobile versions) and basically stay ahead of the technology curve.

If you have any tips, suggestions or advice please post it here; if you think this thread is a waste please don't take up space saying so, just go post on other threads.

    1. If you are currently running an Android phone and have 2.2 (froyo) do not waste your time AND BATTERY LIFE with advanced task killer apps. The 2.2 update rendered these apps useless.

    2. I have tried may of the internet browsers available for the phones. I happen to like Dolphin HD (4.0) is the newest available version. It's extremely fast and bug free. when you log onto facebook, RXmuscle.com and the forums, you get the real sites that you would with your laptop or computer. You can post on the forums, which I currently do all the time while traveling.

    3. Download and install Juice Defender. It's a great free app that once installed and enabled will give you roughly 30% more battery life.

    4. Download Astro File Manager. This free app allows you to use your new smart phone like a computer. You can move, copy, paste, rename data files such as pictures and music, create new folders, etc. If you snap a photo of Phil Heath in the gym you can use it to upload the photo to a thread on RX

As more time goes by I really think smart phones will be logging onto the internet just as much as home computers. I already spend more time reading on mine than I on my desktop.

Good thread Zimm. The Blackberry, MDA and Sidekick were able to see the real internet sites not just a 'mobile site'. The problem with the blackberry is that you can't see the pictures on certain websites on certain forums. On others it is ok. The Android and iphone type phones should be much better imporved in 2010. I first heard about the android being released in the future back in 2006. It was in the development stage back then.

Why would you use a browser for forums over Tapatalk?

I did use tapatalk for a day (as well as the other browsers) but using Dolphin on the EVO is exactly like using your computer. I've even uploaded pictures here, wrote on my blog and even edited my own website from Dolphin HD and the Astro app. There isn't anything wrong with tapatalk; I'm sure more people prefer it.

I guess for me it was just personal preference; kind of like my phone choice. I played with the Epic for 3 days before returning it for the EVO. There was nothing wrong with the Epic, I just did not like the added bulk of the slideout keyboard... or the slideout keyboard for that matter.

you can still view websites in the desktop format by making a change to the config.

Open your browser, enter about:debug into the address bar, then hit the "Go" button on your keyboard—don't tap the search/URL suggestion that comes up. You'll notice that the browser now does, well, nothing. But hit your Menu key, choose the "More" option, then select Settings. Scroll down some, and you'll see a new collection of advanced options there, including a "UAString" option. Click that, then choose between Android, desktop, or iPhone user strings to change what browser web sites think you're visiting with.

Thanks jisboss... Hopefully this thread stays alive for months. I'm sure we can all learn a few new things, especially with the customization available now and the new apps arriving almost daily. I was hesitant to even include a quick note about installing your own ROM on here.
