Default Abnormal AST/ALT liver enzymes? help?

I recently had my blood work done and was informed that my liver enzyme levels were 'abnormal'. My AST is 64 and my ALT is 85. I know both are out of the 'normal' ranges but I am not sure how far 'out'.. and if I should be alarmed or due to weight training, diet and supplementation this is relatively 'okay'.. ? I read the blood work thread but didn't see where the levels were 'abnormal' and how alarmed I should be.. thanks so much !

Are we talking supplementation or "supplementation"? And if "supplementation", how recently or have you been "off" for a while?

Yep that's high. What was your Alk Phosaphatase and is your urine color still normal? Have your bowel movements become less frequent and are your stools floating and/or are they unusually light in color?

You should immediately start drinking a lot more water. Check the back panels of any OTC supps you might be running for warnings about liver issues as that's a tip off to some mild hepatoxicity. Stop any BCAA's (they irritate the liver) and stop anything you might be taking with super plasma protein. Throttle back on protein intake in general until those enzymes normalize.

Thanks for the information. I retested per my gyno's advise and my levels dropped considerably. I didn't get a copy of the bloodwork but the nurse told me my total protein level was 6.3 (low) and my AST went to 37 and my ALT to 46. Both within range. I also take silymarin, Liv-52 and protectant and regenerator. Urine is always clear to light color and no change in bowel movements. I drink plenty of water.. but thanks for the great advise.

But still a bit elevated. The reference range is quite liberal. Something happened to acutely stress your liver. If you can afford it, it'd be a good idea to figure out what happened. The lack of urine and bowel abnormalities are very good signs though.

Your enzymes are not that high. You can start worrying when they are 3-5 times the upper limit.

My liver enzymes are almost identical to the OPs, and my doctor told me the same thing. Just training hard+eating a lot will probably raise them to the upper limit of normal, or slightly higher.

if you are interested, take a week off from the gym, but stay on all OTC supplements. have your blood drawn. now, go cycle 100 miles or train heavy legs with squats and deadlifts, get in a major car accident or fall off a horse. have your blood drawn the next day. guaranteed it will be elevated. prob above normative values. the liver is an incredibly resilient organ. long term abuse is different than short term stress.
