Monday 4/8

Hit some lower body stuff and cardio today.

10 minute elliptical warmup

10 minutes mobility

Box squats 3x105x5, nothing taxing, as I'm finding the harder I push with squats the worse my hip feels.

Sumo deads went surprisingly well. Considering that I busted myself senseless on a gardening project (more about that later), I thought I'd be pulling 95 and that was all. My plan is always start with 95 and work up from there with singles until I get to the intensity I'm after, then pull singles for time. I got to 115 easy and decided to go for 135, which totally flew up, no stickiness, no pain. Go figure. Pulled 6 x 135 x 1 with about a minute between pulls.

Leg press, leg extension, seated leg curl, all for 3 x 10 moderate intensity.

Finished with 50 minutes on the elliptical.

Not bad.

Gardening is still my priority now. Here's what's been going on since I last posted.

I planted 8 pomegranates along an east facing, long, ugly block wall that will grow into a hedge and hide the wall, so I don't have to see that blah wall every time I walk into my master bathroom.

In that same area coming out 90 degrees from the house, I planted 5 rosemary bushes to make a mini hedge to eventually hide the garbage cans.

I scored a ruby red grapefruit tree at Lowe's, which I planted in the same side yard.

The last thing to be planted in that side yard is a hardcore rose bush. Roses don't do all that well here, but this particular rose bush was planted by the previous owners in the front yard in full blaring Arizona 120 degree sun. WTF, people. That was one of the first things I removed in 2022. So I thought. If you know anything about roses they have a tap root, and if well established, they can return if only a small part of the tap root remains. WELL, over the last two years that we've been in this house that rose bush keeps resurrecting itself. I have dug it out, drowned it in Roundup multiple times, and most recently smothered it in a pile of gravel. One would think it would get the hint. But no, yesterday I was out front watering some other odds and ends and there it was, giving me the middle finger. I thought ok, you've earned my respect, kid. You get to stay. By now it had multiple baby offshoots so I just dug the whole thing out (12" taproot and all on a 4" tall plant LMAO) and moved it to a shadier spot under my bedroom window where I can actually enjoy it. If it dies from the transplant process, so be it.

The other MAJOR project I tackled was pulling up all of the small, jagged gravel that surrounds my in-ground pool that hurt like legos when we step on them, and get knocked in the pool by the dogs and clog the pool vacuum. All that was replaced with larger, smooth river stones. What. A. Freaking. Job. I can't believe I didn't wake up sore from all that lifting and hauling. It looks gorgeous, and my husband is so happy that he won't be stepping barefoot on all those little stones this summer.

I still have a number of small projects to finish up. I'll see if I can post up some pictures of all the projects.

I had a similar rose bush. It kept returning like a vengeance.

Great workouts. Your hip sounds like my shoulder, thinking if I keep training it will go away. For a while it does only to come back.
