Thursday 6/5 upper body training
Took me 60 min to warm up. Ugh. But good things happened so there’s that.
DB external rotation, elbow on knee:
4 x 20 x 8
Cable external rotation:
4 x 10 x 10
Bunch of banded pull aparts, straight arm pulldowns, over & backs, and face pulls
Bench press (competition style): all reps paused with a 2 count
bar x 10
2 x 77 x 5
99 x 5
4 x 110.5 x 5
these were caaaaaaake!
best setups in a very long time! Got my feet back farther than ever before and my butt was stuck solid to that bench! The arch looked so good I tagged Mark Bell on the Instagram video and asked him to make a singlet with a rainbow stripe down the side so it’ll look super cool when I arch on the platform LOL!
Reverse grip pullups:
5 x BW x 5

Saturday 6/7 upper body training
Yesterday was supposed to be a lower body day but my body wanted no part of that shiz. To make a long story short, I’ve been experiencing numbness and tingling in the toes of my GOOD leg, also some intermittent itching behind my right knee, and yesterday I woke up with numbness and tingling all the way up my leg. Translation: sciatic nerve, seems to be coming from L5 as far as the chiro and I can tell. But there is NO pain which is frustrating to try to explain to a doc, let alone my insurance. Pressure off and on yes, but absolutely zero pain. So I took yesterday off from training.
Today I woke up with balance issues. Walking a straight line is virtually impossible: I walk like I’ve had too much to drink. So I went to the gym today with no expectations. Just get in some mobility work and see how it goes.
It me two hours to warm up. Ugh. But I didn’t die on my heavy bench triples so there’s that.
DB external rotation, elbow on knee:
4 x 20 x 8
Cable external rotation:
4 x 10 x 10
Bunch of banded pull aparts, straight arm pulldowns, over & backs, and face pulls
Bench press (competition style): all reps paused with a 2 count
bar x 10
2 x 77 x 5
99 x 5
115.5 x 3
4 x 127 x 3 - these went extremely well so I thought let’s just bump it up a smidge and see how it goes
1 x 129 x 3 - people the video looks great but I promise you I legit thought I was gonna die!
But I didn’t die do there’s that LOL
Neutral grip pullups:
3 x BW+10 x 5
Dips:
4 x BW x 8
I was pretty spent so I stopped there
Good thing Exile has a ramp with a solid railing so I could stagger back to my car without fhe risk of falling.
Hanging by the pool with the family for the rest of today and probably all day tomorrow too.2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

If anyone knows a really smart, experienced strength coach who is willing to think outside the box AND work for pennies, have them DM me.

Thanks, Curt. It appears I need to find a different approach. I just don’t know what else to try at this point. Stem cell grafting for the spine AND hip? An MD, PT, or strength coach who has already made it in their career and doesn’t need the money, who could coach me through this, would be great at this point.

Perhaps a step away from powerlifting? Olympic lifts, cross fit, a return to hypertrophy training?

Thanks for the ideas, Curt.
If I could do any sort of Olympic lift that’d be a feat! LOL! Sitting and walking are the two biggest culprits. If I could stop doing those I’d probably be ok. Overhead pressing is out of the question (I do it seated and very light, for me) and I have yet to find a squat variation that I can do consistently. Leg extensions, leg curls, and weighted calf training all feel awful because of the position - ANY position- and my trashed knees don’t help matters. Plus it’s hard to train lower body when all you feel in your legs and feet is numbness and tingling.
I’m still doing hypertrophy training for body parts other than legs and low back2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Tuesday 6/11 - upper body thangs
Mobility work & dynamic stretches
DB external rotation, elbow on knee:
4 x 25 x 8 each side - PR!
^someone started using the 20s as I walked up and in my condition I wasn’t about to go walk to the other DB rack and grab another pair of 20s so naturally it was an excuse to PR LOL
Cable external rotation:
4 x 10 x 10
Bench press (competition style): all reps paused with a 2 count
bar x 10
2 x 77 x 5
99 x 5
116 x 5
4 x 121 x 4 - these went BEAUTIFULLY! Very pleased! Check out the video on Instagram if you want it looks great!
Wide grip pullups:
4 x BW x 5
Seated “Y” press:
4 x 20s x 8
Incline DB press ss chest supported DB row:
30s x 8 ss 30s x 8 (4 rounds)
Incline DB fly ss reverse DB fly ss seated DB lateral raise:
15s x 12 ss 15s x 12 ss 10s x 12 (4 rounds)[/QUOTE]
So yeah walking and sitting are awful these days. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the pain or numbness or tingling in my lower half. Walking and sitting seem to set it off. Lifting in any rep range doesn’t. I have to strategically plan my trips to the bathroom far more than I’ve ever had to consider a max squat attempt. I had similar issues with my hip where I could hardly bend over and going to the bathroom was a painful ordeal just to sit down and get up.
My only cure was to stop doing the things that aggravated it which included squats and doing too much running/walking
I do light leg work on the machines and have not had an issue since. I am tempted to try light squats but why ruin a good thing.
Hang in there Sunny, saying prayers you'll find the answer. The tingling is something I didn't suffer from in my legs but had that issue in my right arm. It's gone now but I can totally understand trying to exercise a body part when you can't feel it working.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mac
Once I figure out what IS aggravating it I’ll definitely stop doing that. So frustrating when I can’t pinpoint it. I’ll get there eventually2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Wednesday 6/12 - lower body stuff
looooong thorough warmup but it went well
Bulgarians:
4 x BW x 10/leg holding onto rack for help with balance
Squats:
3 x bar x 5
3 x 77 x 5
3 x 99 x 5 - video posted on Instagram. Looked good
not a lot of weight but I squatted so there’s that. The walkout sucked butt though. Just a few moments ago I came up with a way to modify the walkout so I’ll be trying it on Friday. Fingers crossed
Sumo deads:
these sucked butt too, just couldn’t get a good feel until the very last pull and then I ran out of time. At least SOMETHING got moved
10 x 138 x 1 - with whatever time I needed to get my head back together for the next pull
would have done more but ran out of timeLast edited by Sunnyday; 06-12-2019 at 07:22 PM.
