    How's this for winter fun...

Ice storm going on presently until late tonight then changing to rain as temps rise above freezing.

Rain all day Wednesday, temps in the low 40s

Temps dropping back down Wednesday night with rain changing over to snow with "potential for 5 or more inches" before it's all over on Thursday night.

Can anyone say train at home?! LOL.

Can't control it, no sense to complain. Just gotta roll with it.

    Yikes. Stay indoors!

I was in NY a few weeks ago and it was absolutely miserable. Can't deal with that weather anymore.

Story of my life as a mom without a babysitter and dealing with medical issues. I haven't had a consistent week of training in over a month! Hit a PR on deads on Jan 3 and have not had the chance to deadlift since. Takes me forever to ramp that back up again, among with other exercises I wonder whether I'll ever do again due to chronic pain.

Weather by itself doesn't bother me. I can roll with that. It's not knowing what the schools are going to do about it until the very last minute when it's too late to rethink meal timing, exercise selection, etc. Then slipping on the ice and hurting my hip so I can't even walk without a limp. Things like that are hard.

You're tougher than I am. Even though I grew up on Long Island with the nasty winters...I've been away from that weather for so long I always have such a difficult time acclimated to the cold whenever I go back.

I get that. When I lived in VT and walked a mile to work my tolerance for extreme cold was much higher than it is now. I think one day walking just 1/4 mile in -20 with gusts of wind would do in.

Speaking of weather, ours was updated from eeeew to whoa overnight. I read it and let out a big belly laugh:
Rain today changing to snow around 10 pm and continuing THROUGH 7 PM THURSDAY with accumulations of 7-10".
translation: today might be my last training day of the week. Better make it a good one.

Default Wednesday...abs, glutes, calves, and lrehab

Schools had a 2-hour delay which left me crunched for time and my meal timing a little off. Thankful that I could at least I could get to the gym today. Going to plan on training at home Thursday and Friday. Cardio will be a wash but it's out of my control. Friday night through Sunday I am taking my oldest on a retreat to a camp on the Chesapeake Bay with 900 other teenagers, so training is out of the question. More days off. Again. Planning on bringing my yoga mat and other implements of destruction to stretch in between (or even during) lecture sessions. I'm determined to make it through this weekend without the use of pain killers. Would be a miracle if I do because of all the days off of training lately.

Bits and pieces of Nick Tumminello's warmup

    Donkey calves:
    1 pps x 15
    2 pps x 15
    6 x 3 pps x 15
each work set ss with 30 reps dorsiflexion

    Seated calves:
    2 x 70 x 20

    Hip thrusts:
    2 warms
    6 x 85 x 12

Had to take a break here and do some chiro prescribed mobility work to try to calm the muscle spasms in legs/hip/back - ow. My body cannot tolerate days off.

    Side planks:
    3 x 60 sec hold each side

    Front planks:
    3 x 60 sec hold

    Ab wheel rollouts:
1 x 12 kneeling, low back didn't tolerate this well after being off for so many days

    Hanging knee raise:
    3 x BW x 20

Weighted ball crunch (holding medicine ball, bend backward touch ball to floor crunch up):
    3 x 12 x 20

Finished with 20 min on the elliptical.

Finally felt like myself after cardio was done, like I could lift a house. Unfortunately I had to leave to pick up my oldest who was getting off the bus in 10 minutes. I already miss her staying later for sports and it has only been 3 days of offseason, LOL.

The only reason I am looking forward to warmer weather is no delayed school openings and I can get to the gym more consistently.

Snow (the heavy wet stuff) in tomorrow's forecast with at least 7" before noon. As tough as I am about enduring the weather, I know there is no way I will be able to get to my chiro appointment. Decided to reschedule for next week and told them I'd call back if there was a change at the last minute. Not like anyone is going to call and take my appointment at this time. Haha.

Used to be once every 3 weeks or so. Since July and the updated diagnosis it is now once a week.

If you don't mind me asking- what's the diagnosis?

I ask because I slipped a disc in my back about a year ago and every so often I feel my lower back and left side of my leg (hamstring and glute) tighten up. It can be very uncomfortable at times and seems to come out of nowhere. Wondering if regular adjustments would be something that could help.

My orthopedist tends to think it's not something that would help but am wondering what your back injury is. I asssume it's helping being that you go pretty regularly.

Goal with the frequent visits over these last months-Trying to do everything to avoid hip replacement and spine surgery and avoid taking any pain killers, muscle relaxers, etc.

Degenerative joint disease, left hip and spine (L4, L5, S1) diagnosed in July 2014. Had been complaining of severe back pain since 1995 but no one ever bothered to take an x-ray...until I got to this sports chiro last summer. Docs only prescribed me meds to alleviate the symptoms and told me to rest, but never bothered to look for the root cause no matter how many times I asked for the cause.
That in addition to the misshaped sacrum and scoliosis that I've known about since I was 12.

Sounds rough. I remember reading about your scoliosis. Was the scoliosis a contributing factor to the degenerative joint disease or is this something completely separate.

Sorry for all the questions. Just curious and love to learn about these types of injuries and how they affect people.

I've read about your hip pain in your training journal before...but did not realize it was part of a much bigger problem. Really sorry that you have to deal with that.

Amazing that you're still able to train as often as you do. Warrior

For me it is helping immensely. I have had plenty of docs discourage me from chiro, and I have had plenty of chiros do very little for me over the years. Hard to say in your case whether it would help or not. Meeting several pro athletes who go to this guy and swear by him, I had to give it a try. I'd say find someone by word of mouth and give it a try. But I wouldn't just pick somebody without a recommendation.
