Thanks for the friendly reminder, COG. That week off or a deload works great for people who lift in the 70% and up range. I’m not even lifting at 30% of my max at the moment.
With severe bone-on-bone arthritis, a week of no movement would completely cripple me. More than one day off and it’s a 2-week setback because my hip and spine lock up. My husband had to carry me once and it was so humiliating that I couldn’t walk 10 feet across the room. I’m not letting that happen again, period.Last edited by Sunnyday; 09-10-2020 at 05:01 PM.

Update.
Haven’t been posting much because school started and it’s been totally nuts here. My kids are required to be on their own computer 7:45-2:45 every single day, camera and microphone enabled. It’s been hard on the whole family.
I took an extra day off to get them started and the county’s website keeps crashing from the volume. They’re not leaving us hanging though. My kids’ middle school has been knocking it out of the park with leadership and helping everyone troubleshoot. That part has been great. And the teachers are super understanding. We’ll get through it.
I’ve been doing everything I can to keep some form of training in so my joints don’t lock up. Means I’m doing sporadic leg curls or leg extensions during the kids’ lessons and having to stop mid-set to help out. I get up at 6 to do mobility work and dynamic stretches before it’s time to make breakfast. Still no cardio equipment at the house so that sucks. They get a full hour for lunch so I use that time to get in a few sets and more mobility stuff. When it’s not raining I have my daughter help me walk the dogs. Unfortunately I can’t walk well on my own so it’s great that my littlest is strong enough to handle two large spastic rescue poodles that aren’t well socialized. Yesterday a stray dog came bounding along and the dog I was holding freaked out and pulled me down to the ground. It doesn’t happen often and I know I need to walk if I want to keep my hip.
I bought some more equipment for the garage gym - pair of 35s and a pair of 45s, a 25-lb plate, and a belt for weighted pullups. Next month I’ll add a couple more things. Trying hard to buy just a few things at a time. Being FORCED to buy each kid a laptop for school with less than 2 weeks notice from the school really put us in a tight spot financially. School had promised us free technology but then announced 2 weeks out that they only had enough for half the kids. By that time anything reasonably priced wasn’t available so we had to go with higher end in order to have it arrive on time. Their technology IS really sweet and now that I’m hearing all the glitches of the school laptops I’m thankful we had the means to buy them nicer ones.
Before school began i was training Monday through Saturday and taking Sunday off for the family. Now I’m doing what I can at home Monday through Thursday while the kids are in live classes. My husband will be here for them on Fridays and then I get gym time on Saturdays and Sundays.
It’s a season that can’t end soon enough.2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Thanks for the vote of confidence, COG.
Mkay.... so my 2 middle schoolers and I made it through the first week of full-on, no holds barred, online school. Yowza that was HARD!! My husband was supposed to pinch hit for me today but something came up at work so there I was.
Understand this isn’t plop kids in front of a screen and hit the play button so they can watch Sesame Street. Oh no. They have to sign into homeroom at 7:45 and today it was all remote stuff with time deadlines. This was our first non-live-instruction day and it was full of kinks. My 6th grade daughter can rock this fairly well on her own aside from a few glitches. My 8th grade son, OTOH, has autism and is easily frustrated to the point of panic attacks when a curve ball is thrown his way. And AIEEEE did we EVER have glitches today! Completely flying by the seat of our pants from 7:45-2:45. Y’all know I am a freaking MACHINE when it comes to my meals. I will eat anywhere to get those meals in. Pfffft. Not today! I made my coffee, all meals prepped and waiting in the fridge... and didn’t get the chance to eat MEAL ONE until 3 pm! What. The???? !!! I totally pulled this day out of my butt. Up until today I was able to get in some sporadic training throughout the day. But I can see it’s not going to be possible to train at all on Fridays. My kids and the teachers thanked me though (not as much of a consolation as “skip the school stuff and get in your gym time Sunny!” that would have made my day and then some )
We survived it though!! And I am SOOOOOO glad my husband couldn’t be here for it. He would have given up and I would have come home to unfinished school work that can’t be made up and some very upset kids.
Efff a duck my mind is MUSH!! I’m honestly so spent it would be a chore to train right now. Who am I kidding, I’d find a way LOL!
Much as I can’t stand being home like this I’m thankful I don’t work for anyone but myself so I can help my kids get a great start to the school year. They have far too many other things to worry about with learning CONCEPTS than whether they know how to troubleshoot a FlipGrid video or edit a Smore newsletter for science class.
I feel bad for the kids whose parents can’t help them like this.Last edited by Sunnyday; 09-11-2020 at 05:46 PM.

Glad you made it thru the day.
What do parents who cannot afford internet service and a computer at home do for getting their kids an education?

They actually have satellite sites for those who don’t have internet access (masks must be worn the entire day). In June the county had promised a laptop for every student. But 2 weeks out they announced they won’t have them for everyone. So the kids in need still got them but the rest of us were left to fend for ourselves. With most other school systems requiring the same, an inexpensive laptop with the required features wasn’t available in time. All the non-qualifying families had to buy a laptop for EACH of their children.Last edited by Sunnyday; 09-11-2020 at 06:12 PM.
