My hubby and I got up at the crack of dawn to pack the car for 6 family members to travel to my mom's in NJ. We pile in the car annnnd.... dead battery. Popped the hood, battery had literally exploded all over and even with a jump (being careful with the exploded mess) it wouldn't turn over. Pile back OUT of the car, call my mom and give her and my sis the news. They didn't take it well. Yeah, it's disappointing. I'm disappointed too, so is my hubby, kids were crying. My mom made a huge drama case out if it, "well now I'll just have to have Thanksgiving for ONE in my house and it's probably the very last Thanksgiving I would have had family (sob, sob, violins playing). My sis was no help either: "isn't Walmart open? Can't one of the neighbors help you?" Ummm... do you GET that there's a HUGE mess under the hood AND my hubbs and the neighbors may be good but this is beyond their ability? We need a mechanic and getting a mechanic ON this holiday just ain't gonna happen at the snap of a finger...but even if we could get it done, it'd be too late to drive up today (we were only planning on going up and back for the day). I already had a scheduled oil change for tomorrow afternoon so I'll just have them tow the car over to the dealership and get the battery done at the same time and pay THEM to clean up the mess under the hood.
So with my angry sis blowing up my phone all morning long, I let my big girl (with her shiny new learner's permit) drive the two of us to the supermarket so we could try to salvage something fun for today. Check out the parking job. I was doubled over laughing cuz she parked so far out into the drive lane!!

Not bad for a Thanksgiving Day shopping spree! We got the very last pecan pie in the county I think. No fresh whole turkey - just a freezer full of frozen - so we had to settle for fresh turkey parts. No big deal, they'll cook faster.

We got back in our comfy clothes, caught the last bit of the parade, and I'm in the process of making hot hours d'eruves, mugs of soup and some crudités. Yum!

Brownie Layer Cake! Shourout to the bakery at the Bel Air Redners Warehouse Market for this decadent concoction: brownie layer, chocolate cake layer, vanilla frosting, chocolate shell drizzle on top half, and chocolate chips all around lower half! A new family fave!

We've done the turkey parts before. It's a great way to get the breast just right because you can take it out when it's just right and let the rest cook

Yeah, rolling with the punches teaches good things to the kids instead of the dramatic woe-is-me message. Quite honestly, this has been my favorite Thanksgiving Day ever! No family drama all day other than my sister and mom blowing up my phone (seems they're not speaking to me now LOL), I'm rocking a killer champagne buzz, best batch of gravy I've ever made to rival any 4-star restaurant, and the rest of the meal came out absolutely perfect!
