Hey my people! I’m back after an extended trip to New Jersey to visit my mom. Long story short, she was diagnosed with renal carcinoma. In a young person it’s not necessarily a death sentence. However, in an 80+ woman with a history of bleeding problems and a horseshoe kidney (think conjoined kidneys like siamese twins with a single blood supply), it’s more of a big deal. Her own choice, she elected to undergo microwave ablation (think burn out the small tumor). She’s up and around again already and although sore in her arthritic joints and surrounding muscles, she really has bounced back quickly.
My husband has been holding down the fort and due to some work restrictions on meeting sizes thanks to the media scares, he’s still working from home.
I finally made it to the gym so let’s see what I can get done over the next few hours.
See you on the other side2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Hey people!!
Home training has been sporadic. Whatever, that’s out of my control. If I learned anything from my few years of competing, I learned to control the stuff I can and not swear the stuff I can’t. Mobility work and static stretching are going great though LOL!
Moving right along so I don’t get depressed...
Anyone else finding meal prep is a breeze? Yes, yes, it’s not easy acquiring specific food a competitor might need. But if you’re creative, this is meal prep HEAVEN!! And what better time to be in a calorie deficit, AMIRIGHT?? I’ve meal prepped the entire family and for me I actually have MORE time to do stuff for me, like STUDY for my next certification exam without having to stop and taxi kids to and from school and activities. Woo hoo!
So in between studying I’ve been doing some other online self-study courses and reading about new diets. Yeah, ya girl is seriously investigating the plant based life. Not vegan or vegetarian. I’ll always keep some animal protein in my daily diet. However, the thought of scaling back is appealing for a number of reasons, particularly for reducing inflammation in an effort to reverse my osteoarthritis. Now before someone tells me it can’t be reversed, I’d be happy to share my knee x-rays that show I now have the knees of a 20-year old. Not my words but those of a world renowned specialist at the International Center for Limb Lengthening and Joint Preservation. He also said my bone density is that of a 20-year-old’s. The left hip and left SI joint are more mobile than ever and pain is greatly reduced which is super. But these two areas have been stubborn in regeneration of cartilage and I believe I need to get more plant based for a while to see if it makes a difference. I’m testing this for at least 3 months, maybe a year or more depending on what happens in the next 3 months.
So more veggies means I need to get my act together and get the garden up and running! Today we had a 6-yard truckload of primo topsoil-compost blend delivered to our driveway. Ya girl was a kid at Christmas! My hubby bought me a new MONSTER garden cart IT IS 7 CU FT WOOOOT!!
My four raised beds are now filled and I’m planning some new things, possibly artichokes because they’re staggeringly expensive at our local Sprouts market. I’ll be picking up some herbs and veggies tomorrow. Forecast says 76 degrees YASSSSS!!
Indoors isn’t too shabby either. I have several celery plants that I started from cut off bottoms set in water. Another glass jar with a dozen green onion bulbs that I cut the tops off of and have since resprouted, and a dozen sets of sprouted garlic cloves. That’s not all, folks! On my kitchen countertops are all sorts of fermenting thangs: shredded carrots, tricolor slaw, and red onions. If anyone is interested in how I set them up just ask away and I’ll go into detail. It’s very eaay and fun, plus the end results are delicious! I also made homemade water kefir (aka homemade naturally fermented soda).

Glad to hear about your knees Sunny. I bet the reduced pain and inflammation is a major blessing. You attribute this to your plant-based diet?
I wonder what is causing your inflammation or is it something reducing it?
Great news. I hope you enjoyed your 76 degree day.

Hi mac!
Yeah I’m thrilled about my knees. I realized a while back that they had stopped hurting during leg days and I wasn’t reaching for my knee sleeves like I used to. But until I saw the x-ray and heard the doc tell me those words I had no idea that I had truly reversed all the damage!
I can’t attribute the knee progress to a plant based diet, though, because I only recently started investigating it. However for the last couple of years I have just about eliminated cheat meals and even my clean splurging is very mild compared to what it used to be. I have been doing regular cardio for about a year, keeping my step count moderate to high (lotsa walking), and daily rehab things like knee joint distraction with 10-lb ankle weights for 10 minutes a day while sitting on a table, followed by moist heat for 15 minutes. I do the same for the hip with a 20-lb weight but I figure it’s a deeper, larger joint that’s going to take more drastic measures.
On that note I just ordered Redcon1’s Gren Beret (vegan protein). Yeah, gasp!!! I never thought this day would happen. But if it helps to save me from a hip replacement I’ll eat cardboard and sawdust. Look for my product review soon.2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Sad news. I just received the call that my certification exam for the end of April has been canceled and I have to wait until Monday to reschedule. While I’m glad for the extra study time, I’m bummed because it pushes back my timeline for qualifying to sit for my national board exam. Yep, there’s a national board certification for health coaches. So I probably won’t qualify until 2021. I’m reminding myself it’s by no fault of my own and if anything it gives me even more time to prepare for that. Probably a huge blessing in disguise.
At least it’s not like my daughter’s internship. She worked her butt off to win a scholarship for an internship in London! Unfortunately she can’t reschedule that, and even if she could it would mean she wouldn’t graduate college on time. Poor kid.
ok back to studying!2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month
