Hey guys!
I’m still training albeit not as often as I’d prefer. Schools in my area are still 100% virtual and since my son is special needs it means I’m sitting beside him through the school day. It’s pretty much crippled me as I’m having quite a bit of trouble walking.
I did find out the underlying issue that is causing the numbness, tingling, and weakness in my left leg the past year: there’s a herniated disc and a facet cyst pressing on my L4 nerve root. Nasty bugger! In addition to that they tell me spondylolisthesis (think slipped vertebra so that my spine isn’t lining up any more) and there’s also some stenosis. I’m over the shock of it. Went for a surgical consult as well as a pain management consult. Neither one of them felt that surgery/injections would restore the lost strength in my leg, so I found myself an old physical therapist who gets it and has been helping me quite a bit. Still not walking well: a few steps without a cane but I’m more confident with the cane and I have nothing to prove by staggering so the cane it is.
Surprisingly, I can still train ok, at least enough to stay in some kind of shape and make the 20 year olds look lazy LOL! A couple weeks ago I felt good enough to start deadlifting off the floor again. It wasn’t much, just 135 and I only pulled it for a few singles, and conventional (eeew). Vid is on my Instagram page if you’re interested.
I trained legs today. Some single leg squat variations with no weight. Tried Hacks with just the empty sled but still no bueno. Unilateral leg press on the assisted dip machine because the back still doesn’t like any other leg press variations. Bunch of BW glute things and finished off with some abs and calves then a 1-mile hobble on the treadmill hanging on the rails. But I got it done and for that I’m proud.
Tomorrow I’ll do some upper body things.2016 RX Member of the Year & March 2015 Member of the Month

Thanks, Swiper. They do suck. It’s hard to hear that I might not walk again without assistance. All I can do is do the prescribed exercises, don’t push through pain like all of us have been programmed to do, and hope the exercises work to relieve the symptoms. Fingers crossed.
