Thanks for the encouragement, GD. I've had to remind myself that most of the spasms WILL stop in a couple of days and that has kept me going.

Default A good Tuesday turned into a great Tuesday!

I had some encouragement from some complete strangers today. As the day has worn on I've been feeling better and better physically, in spite of having to drive some more today. Thanks everyone here for your encouragment too!

Here's where things turned from good to great...

By now all of you know that my 8-y.o. son has autism and his disability affects every part of our lives. Meal time is no exception. The foods can't touch (think no casseroles, no soup, pizza deconstructed, sushi deconstructed, taco deconstructed, no gravy/condiments, etc.) He has texture issues with certain foods and is actually afraid of some colors and shapes if they end up on his plate. And he won't use utensils unless it's for yogurt. We manage as best we can, some nights go better than others.

It's Taco Tuesday and we're all enjoying the meal, talking about our day. Without prompting, my son says, "I think I'll make a taco." We all sat there with our chins in our laps watching the boy put shredded cheese onto a tortilla and roll it up. (no, it's not a taco but for him this is a major milestone) It took everything in me not to choke on the food I was eating. I started crying, my husband kept trying to stop me so HE wouldn't start crying too. Our ultra-chatty girls just sat there speechless. It was surreal.

    Well, now I'm crying ....

One thing about keeping your nose to the grindstone is that people, even strangers, recognize the effort and more often than not, someone will voice their appreciation for your efforts!

And yes, God gives us little and big insights and miracles every day! Congrats on this one <3

Thanks, everybody! Here's more chicken soup for your souls from my boy.

Some background: My son has been a stress case since January, when some "experts" tested him, found his ability far above the level he was originally placed in, and suggested he should be moved out of his special needs reading/writing group and into the more adept group because he is so head-and-shoulders above the special needs kids (he can spell/read/write ANYTHING, just don't change his routine). The change in classroom had completely turned his world upside down. He became violent, has had trouble sleeping, things that were once easy for him became miserable chores, he had trouble staying on task, even getting dressed first thing in the morning became a knock down drag out fight. Basically it was as if my lovable kid had been abducted by aliens. At last week's meeting with his team, it was unanimously decided that he get switched back to the less adept reading group. That change occurred on Monday. You all read what happened last night with a major breakthrough for him.

Jump back to today...my youngest is like a mini bag lady and leaves trails of clutter all over the house. She also has her brain wired to her jaw and won't stop chattering. This morning before school my son asked me if he could have a pad of paper to play policeman. Uh, ok...? He wrote his sister several tickets. One of them, "You shall not shout at someone." which she quickly crumpled up. And this one which I saved and wouldn't let her take.

Peeps, I have my kid back from the aliens.

I sent it to my husband. He's been having a horribly stressful week at work that began with a phone call during our Sunday breakfast. A relaxing weekend suddenly turned into DEFCON1 for him that includes teleconferences with Asia every 12 hours (9 am and 9 pm EVERY DAY), and seems to get more stressful with every meeting. He said it made his day.

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SPECIAL!!!
There are "moments" in life that will burn forever in our memories and hold such a divine impact...... suddenly all the "this, that's, etc..." that we stress over or are stressing over become so completely insignificant and tiny nothings in comparison ! No matter if one is "religious" or not.... it is ABSOLUTELY a spiritual moment and a touch of divinity! Your "moment" has touched us as well!!! Thank you for sharing such a SPECIAL moment!!
