Looks like you have more prize money this year.

I don't understand why the 1st and 2nd place lifts are receiving the same money? I mean it's great for second place, but I have never seen this done before.

Yeah, this last April we paid out $5,500 in cash + $500 in House of Pain gift certs + a $1,250 custom contest bench. So, though we aren't offering any prizes this upcoming April, we are awarding an extra four grand in cash.

For the max lifting I don't like to pay out anything less than a thousand dollars. We get a good number of out-of-state and overseas lifters so paying them less than a thousand bucks would be more like giving them a refund on their sign up and travel costs (which is still lifting "for free".) With a $1,000 a person would still recover their $600 airfare, their $200 hotel nights and then they'd still have another couple hundred bucks for free entertainment, a rental car or for walking around money. And, for winners that only had to drive to get there, a person can really buy something nice for a thousand dollars so that's a prize worth training for.

And a top competitor can win MORE than $1,000. If they get one of the top 2 biggest benches and one of the top 2 biggest deadlifts, then they'll probably also have the biggest push/pull total so that person would win $3,000. Or someone could be better conditioned and be better pound-for-pound and win the "lightest man to deadlift 800" + the 600 deadlift-for-reps and they'd pick up a $1,500 money order.

Question about the total number of entries for this years contest. It says limited to 20 people per weight division per event. Since deadlift is one open weight division, does that mean only 20 total people get to deadlift? If so, will the people wanting to do both bench and deadlift get first dibs or how does that work?

Looking forward to a great event. SallyAnne and I will be providing live coverage at the event. Rx is making a big investment to cover more strength sports live than anyone else on the net. I will be in touch soon sean.

I'm stoked that RxMuscle's making such an investment. We're right there with ya; throwing as many green bills as possible into the powerlifting promotional fuel tank.

I got your PM and I wrote you back.

And if you'd like any event fliers for your gym please PM me over the next couple of days and send me your mailing address (no PO Boxes please.)

Looking forward to working with you at The Mesquite Rodeo Convention Center!

We have to work within the expo's timeframe, which means that we have to have our event fully completed by (4pm this year?) Since our weigh-ins are at 8am, the event will start at 10am sharp.

The most number of competitors we'll have time for is 20 lightweight raw benchers + 20 middleweight/heavyweight raw benchers + 20 raw deadlifters + 20 315lb bench reppers + 20 405lb bench reppers + 20 600lb deadlift reppers = 120 people either taking 3 max attempts or repping out with a set amount of weight (20 people per hour, which would really be pushing the pace.)

Since the minimum opening requirement for the max raw deadlift is 600 pounds, most of the lightweight benchers won't qualify for that event (not too many 175 pounders can raw deadlift 600+ AND raw bench 350+.)

If we get >20 lifters in any particular event (which will most likely happen) we'll be able to accept that many more lifters in another event.

As far as who gets to lift, it's on a first come first serve basis. The entry forms are online (at the bottom of our homepage at HardcorePowerlifting.com) so concern lifters can sign up right now since we're nowhere near 20 lifters in any flight this far out from the meet.

I doubt we'll get 20 raw benchers who can all hit 350+ at 175 pounds so that will probably be the division where we'll have some breathing room in case we get more than 20 deadlifters or mwt/hwt benchers.

I think the biggest flight we've ever had was our 315 bench for reps (we had around 10-12 competitors in 2010.) But we're advertising more than ever this year so maybe we'll finally hit that 20 lifter group marker?

EDIT: found the answer to my original question, but I have another. I am currently still working on strengthening my shoulder to get my bench up. I am not sure if I can hit 450 right now so I was not going to sign up for bench and DL. However, if my bench comes up between now and the meet, can I add bench at a later date(assuming you have a spot available)? I will be signing up for the DL regardless.

As strong as you are in da deadlift, we're not too concerned if you can raw bench 450 or not. We've had other back lifting monstahs come to our show before who were rehabbing shoulders or who were dealing with chronic shoulder problems.

So, my suggestion is to sign up for all of the events that interest you. Then, if you decide you want to skip the benching and just deadlift (max, reps or both) then that's no problem at all. And if you just want to bench whatever's safe for your shoulder at the time (less than 450) and then really go for it on the deadlift, then that's cool too. The posted "minimum 450 bench" is just to give an idea to competitors where they should be at before they consider entering as a bench specialist. It's a polite way of giving a heads up to benchers who maybe lift a lot more than the other people in their local gym, but who aren't aware of the caliber of competitor that shows up to a pro raw bench meet.
