Sas....can you list the contest's info (location, promoter, etc) and any other shows with masters classes you're aware of? That's the purpose of this thread

You may as well delete my post then - USAs doesn't have a masters class.

There were no NPC shows listed for January or February on the NPC website.

On March 14, in Covington, Kentucky, the Northern Kentucky show will have masters men (over 40) & masters figure (over 35).

    http://www.bodybuildingworld.com/Contest/2009npc/

On March 21, a show in Aurora, Colorado, will have an over-40 bodybuilding division for both women & men. (Mountain Peaks Performance show). Info here:

    http://www.eathans.com/mtnstates_comp.htm

On the same day, a San Diego show will have masters men over 40 & masters figure & bikini over 35.

    http://lindsayproductions.com/2009SD.htm

There's a contest in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, on March 21 that also has a national wheelchair contest. I couldn't locate a website w/ info about the Sunshine Classic, but it should have a masters division. There will also be a masters wheelchair class for the Wheelchair Nationals.

If you guys want me to continue to track contests for this string, let me know.

How about an international Masters at something like the Arnold? We have some excellent masters competitors in the UK who have done well at the IFBB European and World's but you guys from the USA are never there.

We would love a chance to compete in the USA - it is the home of bodybuilding afterall. Any thoughts?

That's a very good idea, Mike. I'm not certain how that would be accomplished, since Gary Udit has THE premier Masters show sanctioned by the NPC, and I can tell you that they (NPC) do NOT want to add a show that competes with that.

I would think that the winner of an International event like that would want a pro card, and the NPC/IFBB is not handing those out without a lot of political clout.

The Arnold does not hand out pro cards, but an international event there would be well received and published, so it might benefit a Masters winner more than a pro card.

I'm thinking out loud here, but adding to the Masters population through an international event would also add to the competitors in Masters pro shows, which could be good for the promoters and sponsors.

Let me contact the AC staff and run it up their flagpole and see what they say. I'll get back to everyone on this thread.

Masters is already the toughest division without adding those guys. I am a protectionist in this regard! lol

Whilst a pro card would be good that is not my reason for getting this going. In the UK we have had some real success in the past few European and World champs but getting to compete in the US would be the major attraction for us.

    How'd you do?

BTW, you're overposing on the relaxed shots. Try holding your arms in a little and bend them at the elbow. Unless you have incredibly huge lats, your arms are in an unnatural position, which works to reveal that you don't have incredibly huge lats. It's a very common rookie problem. Show what you have and don't show what you don't have.
The same goes for your side relaxed shot. Why hold your arms almost straight out in front of you and straight behind you? Again, bring the arms in, bend at the elbow to make it look like a relaxed pose.
Otherwise, good conditioning. I assume you're natural and therefore have a great physique, especially for over 40!!!

Thanks for the advice Esplendido. Constructive advice like this is what has got me this far.
My lats are fairly wide, but you're right I do struggle with the front relaxed symmetry pose. My chest needs thickness and I think I am self conscious of that which throws me into the position you see.
In the off season I'm going to work on my delts (side/front) -rears are ok, mid chest thickness, calves and abs - only started training abs 4 months ago, so I should be able to add some thickness there.
Will practice your advice on the front/side poses.
Will work further on my conditioning to get more quad separation, chest striations and to lose further lower back fat.
Yep, I am natural and am very happy with the progress I have made in the last 2 years. I placed 2nd in this one.
Next show is on May 17.

Much better. I'd throw your shoulders back a little more on the front pose...lifting the chest more.

Definulately pull the shoulders back some Also at least in the shows I've done, they tend to call you on holding the back arm in front like you're doing. Just some thoughts. You look great by the way!

Definitely be prepared for "Please put your arms to your sides." You'll figure out as soon as you see the group before you go, or they'll tell you straight up at the competitors' meeting before pre-judge.

What you can do with this is do your pose (w/ the arms front / back), hold it for a second or two while setting up for your quarter turns, and then settle into the arms-at-the-sides pose.

    Hey Sassy69

The bizarre part is my arms were far more extended (back and front) for all my comps and the judges didn't say anything.
Will take your advice though as the judges may be giving me additional default points and I wasn't even aware of it!!

I accept: The Arnold does not hand out pro cards, but an international event there would be well received and published, so it might benefit a Masters winner more than a pro card.
