    Default Brain Trauma

When lifting heavy, 1 rep max like powerlifting or really heavy sets of 10 like bodybuilding, you can cause extreme high blood pressure while under load. This pressure can lead to things like red dots on skin or busted blood vessels in the eyes. This makes me wonder how this affects the brain? not even considering the use of PED's in these sports, what are the odds of causing a brain bleed(stroke) from this kind of pressure? Even if these bleeds are minor, what kind of long term damage could be caused after years of lifting?

Im going to be looking for info on this, but honestly I suck at this kind of research which is why I wanted to bring these questions to the attention of people that do know how to search these things.

Actually its a strongman turning to another like bodied fella for info. Bottomline is things like nasal bleeds, orbital peticiai and occular vessculature rupture not bad. These are superficial vessels and have less to protect them. te deeper cerebral vessles are protected by cerebral fluid and thicker flrxable dense cortex. However there is neurological research that similar to a boxers brain, long term I.jury can exacerbate the potential for a cerebral injury.

My man....that is the kind of info I was looking for. Basically I was curious if the constant pressure from lifting over many years could cause brain damage similar to concussions(boxer brain) even though the acute injuries may not really cause any noticeable damage. Attila, do you have any links to the research your talking about?

working on finding something to read, but ran across this. this would be an interesting study with PL or strength athletes who trained natural...

Quick story: i was hit in the head with a beer mug, fractured skull, got flight for life'd to a trauma center for emergency brain surgery....anyway while recovering from that, the surgeon told me in follow-ups that i should avoid ANY strenuous activity including weight lifting and even intense cardio because the increased blood pressure could rupture healing blood vessels in my brain.

My guess would be that if you have some sort of pre-existing issue with weakened blood vessels i'm sure there would be a risk. But if you're in good health, probably not. Think of all the weird injuries that have been endured by strength/physique athletes over the years...i think we may have seen or heard of it once or twice by now. Just my two cents.
