MUSCLE GIRLS INC:Tue (03/24/09) 7pm EST-Sandy Williamson, Kristy Hawkins,Emery Miller
This is a very special episode of Muscle Girls Inc. We are talking about an issue that we feel effects many of the women, and even some of the men, in our industry (as well as the general public). The subject we'll be talking about is: Eating Disorders.
Some would argue that the sport may actually create eating disorders while others would claim just the opposite.
See what Kristy Hawkins, IFBB Pro bodybuilder, has to say about how bodybuilding helped her overcome anorexia.
Listen to IFBB Pro bodybuilder, Emery Miller, tell her story about being overweight and how she struggled with binge eating and bulimia.
Finally, head judge Sandy Ranalli-Williamson, discusses how weight training and the bodybuilding lifestyle helped her recover from her eating disorder.
This is a show that we can all relate to on some level...be ready to be inspired!
As a special edition to Muscle Girls, Inc. we will also be featuring podcasts of personal stories from Bikini Competitor, Elise Firestone and Rx Muscle contributor, Leigh Penman.
MUSCLE GIRLS, INC. airs on TUESDAY, March 24, 2009 at 7 PM EST/4 PM PST. Just click on the MUSCLE GIRLS, INC. page of the website or simply click on the following link to join the party:

Just wanted to say that even though I am not a woman, I could totally relate to many of the issues covered in this weeks show.
I competed last weekend and am now in the very difficult mental and physical post competition situation.
It's great to know that I am not alone with this.
Also I think I have issues. I enjoy the womens radio show better than the mens hahaha.

I really enjoyed this week's show! Hell, I've enjoyed every show so far actually... I wish new episodes aired more than once a week!
While I don't and never have suffered from an eating disorder, I can relate to body image issues. I think it's so important for people to realize that they aren't alone and that food isn't the enemy. Too often, I encounter people who see the changes I've made to my own physique since I got into lifting and eating properly and they don't "get" that I actually eat quite a bit and that I'm not deprived or starved. There's so many misconceptions because people would rather do hours of cardio or starve and not exercise at all, rather than get active and/or pick up some weights.
It's really inspiring to hear about everyone who's turned their lives around and are now healthy thanks to the sport of bodybuilding, or just the idea of a well-balanced diet in conjunction with resistance training in general.

Wow I never would have thought I'd get Krissy replying to one of my posts. How cool is that
Just to fill you in I'm from Australia and have been listening to the show from day one, I love it. I love bodybuilding in general but most of the media seems to focus on the men. I've learnt a great deal more about the womens side of the sport from listening to you guys.
As for my comps, I competed the past two weekends. I took a 2nd and a 3rd. Sure I didn't win but I do believe that this was my best showing to date. I'll get them next time.
The last few days after the show I have been binge eating like crazy, then I would take laxatives and go and do a stupid amount of cardio. Just like you guys talked about in the show.
Yesterday that all changed. After listening to you guys and hearing that quote about what normal eating is, I have turned it all around. I woke up this morning feeling good and looking forward to some sensible meals.
Thanks heaps Krissy and could you pass this on to Colette.

Very well done, thoughtful and insightful. An issue that should be addressed more often. Hell-how bout a show on post contest rebound-physical and emotional?
Great job on all the shows ladies.

How about show of appreciation thread for Colette and Dave. Been reading all the boards regarding cancellation of women's bodybuilding at the Tampa Bay Pro. The girls are even raising money for next year. Does anyone know why there is women's bodybuilding at the New York Pro? It's because Dave and Colette are gracious enough to divy up the cash yet again this year. They do it because the love the sport and don't want to let the ladies down. So if any of you didn't get around to doing anything special for them last year it's not too late. Send em a check!

It was nice to hear a subject no one ever talks about, maybe you could try and get Jennifer Goodwin as a guest if this topic is brought up again, i read her story years ago in ANMD.... then again steve o may put her under contract.
