My period stopped and started all through high school. If the doc says she's fine I wouldn't worry about that. As far as the excess weight, now would be a good time to teach her healthy nutrition habits she can take into adulthood. Get her the book Body For Life by Bill Phillips. it's a sensible easy way to teach healthy eating habits and start a healthy fitness lifestyle without being so extreme like most of us are. Good luck!

I think in only 14 it may be really natural problem - hormones are just setting the right levels up...
Anyway I remember something similar happened to me when I was 10 - I gained 30-33lbs in one month and than I was diagnosed with hypothyreosis - and I remember that keeping any STRICT diets - based on few meals only - are NOT good in this age. Is better to eat everything - but in appropriate portions, yes - keep an eye mainly on good proteins and fats and keep some carbs in too - excluding some groups of nutrients is not good in this young age yet - as they are necessary for healthy growth (a lot of teenagers have less proteins than their bodies needs, but more carbs than they really needs).
And is always better to add some exercise than restricting the food a lot... for young people is easier to start with some sport or with some activity, than for older people And sometimes even longer walks are enough as they are some extra activity.... I think also in this age it is pretty soon to start with some weight exercise (however I started in this age - because I was overweighted and without any shape)... and if so - than is better to start slowly, some exercises with own weight, bosu is good, good is strenghtening the core, combined with stretching - as it helps to prevent the natural dysbalanaces in growth...

Skipping months at 14 is very common regardless of weight.
