RIP Mike Jenkins, November 3, 1982 November 28, 2013 (was Q&A with)
Mike Jenkins, the most underrated guy on the circuit at the beginning of 2011 has disproved the naysayers. Mike had a huge 2nd place finish at the 2011 Arnold Strongman Classic and just followed that with a 2nd place finish at the Sin City Strongman Challenge.
Please help me welcome Mike. He is here to answer any training, nutrition and romance questions (sorry girls, he just got engaged...) you have.Last edited by Bryan Hildebrand; 03-28-2011 at 02:48 PM.

Give us a quick run down on the equipment you like to use for different events.
ex: stones - this tacky, this wrap, no belt, sleeves, etc.

As far as equipment I usually have Rehband Knee sleeves on both elbows and knees for most events. Keeps my knees and biceps warm. On pressing events I use Metal wrist wraps. For most carry medleys, press events and deadlifting I use the Rehband Strongman Belt. Only time Ill use my Inzer Lever belt is for yoke and farmers. For stones I have made the switch to Spider Tacky, I LOVE it! I also use the Dino Strength stone shirt which I was happy with once I cut the slippery inside layer out, I need help getting in and out but it works. Lastly I wear Rehband shorts for everything. If there is anything I left out let me know! I look forward to being a regular on RX!

quick follow up question: I think I saw you wearing the old style rehband shorts, aren't they discontinued? If so, and you didn't have the pair you have, what would you choose as a second choice?

I have old and new style rehbands, prefer the old ones but they're both good!

Thanks for the info!
The only other question I had was how do you get so fast at yoke/farmers?
I'm slow as a snail on yoke.Last edited by TLG; 03-29-2011 at 01:28 PM.

Honestly I was good at yoke the first time I did it but I've gotten better training with a chain yoke I had made. Its 700 empty and swings the whole run, I personally train yoke lighter and faster then heavy and slow.

Mike, I saw you compete in Vegas. I noticed you are rather quiet compared to some of the other guys. I think the only time I heard you say anything was when you cursed after realizing your time was going to be good enough in an event. I just found that odd.
Keep up the good work.CutlerAthletics.com

Yea I usually am fairly quiet, I just got a little upset knowing I needed to get points on Vidas and Yoke is one of my better events. Its crazy that a 80 foot run with a 1000lb yoke in 17 seconds doesnt win, but Vidas is probably the best in the world at that event. I shouldve said earmuffs before I let that one slip.

do you set goals every 3 months or so across the board, or do you just push it to the limit every session, do you cycle through weeks e.g deadlift wk 1 70%3 sets max reps /wk 2 85% max reps wk3 90%+max reps.
I know guys like travis ortmayer trains his deadlifts this way a year ago not sure about now, but he went and pushed his deadlift up very fast in short space of time even dropping bodyweight.
Also do you do front squats one week alternated with back squats and diffrent bars the next to prevent the law of accomodation and overtraining louie simmons bases max effort work on this concept for continued progression with fewer plateu's.
amasing your competing & providing real competition at this level being such a new pro.

Bryan,
I get all my rehband stuff from Jackals. They ship fast and Ive never had a problem with them. I actually needed another pair of knee sleeves for my elbows 3 days before the Olympia and Karl was nice enough to bring them out with him to the GNC booth, making sure I had them to compete!
